Kenneth Louis Pickett, 75, of Barnegat, passed away after a short, yet tough battle with pulmonary embolisms at Southern Ocean Medical Center Hospital on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
After completing Matawan High School, where he was a Varsity Letter Linebacker, Ken was quick to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served as Master Sergeant, prior to retiring with full honors in 1979. While serving, Master Sergeant Kenneth L. Pickett was presented with a Commemorative Medal for his patriotic and dedicated service in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam Conflict. Ken also received The Honorable Order of Saint Barbara, in 2001. Shortly thereafter, and with the “call to serve” still strong, Ken accepted a Government contractor position within Computer Sciences Corporation, now known as DXC Technology, where he proudly served for an additional 10 years prior to his acceptance in the Army’s Civilian Corps. Ken continued to serve his country for an additional 10 years in this capacity, as a Senior Acquisition Logistics Management Specialist with the Program Executive Office Missiles and Space (PEO M&S) and PEO Intelligence, Electronic Warfare & Sensors (PEO IEW&S). Ken started his civilian service at the United States Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey up and until their closure. In 1989, Ken secured his Associate’s Degree, in Applied Science from Brookdale Community College. In addition to countless performance awards throughout his civilian career, Ken received the prestigious Commander’s Award for Civilian Service in 2012.
Ken enjoyed watching his grandchildren excel in their athletic and academic pursuits, rarely missing an event. Including this past April, where he was able to share in his grandson’s NFL draft announcement, intentionally held in New Jersey, to enable his family to participate. Family was everything to Ken and the void he has left, will never be filled.
Ken is survived by his wife of 56 years Sharon (Percy) Pickett originally of Cliffwood; his Son Kenneth L. Pickett, Jr. and his wife Kasey (Irvin) Pickett, granddaughter Alexis Pickett and grandson Kenneth Pickett; his daughter Kelly Pickett Corbett, husband Frederick, granddaughters: Katelyn, Kelsey, Carleigh and Great Granddaughter, Madilynn, Great Grandson, Aidan, Great Grandson Logan Loreaux and Great Granddaughter Maddison; and his daughter Jamie (Pickett) Yockin her husband Bob Yockin, granddaughter Allison (Yockin) Pollera and her husband Joseph Pollera; granddaughter Lauren (Snook) Kingery and her husband Skip Kingery; and grandson Ryan Snook. Ken is further survived by his sister Paricia Frate, sister-in-law Louise Pickett and Nephew Franklin Pickett.
Visitation will be held from 3:00pm – 6:00pm on Monday, October 10, 2022 at the Buckley Funeral Home, 509 2nd Avenue, Asbury Park, New Jersey. Cremation and Repass will be private. For those who desire, memorial contributions in memory of Ken may be made to TheMyaLinTerryFoundation.org.

My sincere condolences to the Pickett Family. I remember seeing Ken in 1986 wearing his Marine uniform every day on the 4th floor of the CECOM Office Building in his important role managing all communication and electronics systems & equipments critical for the Marine Corps mission. In 2012, I again met and worked directly with Ken on several critical Radar systems used by our military service members in Iraq & Afghanistan to protect and save lives. Ken and I became close colleagues and friends. As dedicated and determined I saw Ken to supporting the military, I also saw and knew how dedicated he was to his family. We had some Great conversations about his Family especially when his grandson Ken III was lighting up the scoreboard at UPITT. I had and will always have respect and great memories of Ken. RIP my friend! Ed Leary

Condolences to the family. Ken was the backbone of the logistics support of our Firefinder Radars for twenty years and was much appreciated by the radar user community. Always a pleasure to work with. As a Marine, Firefinder Radar Logistician, and family man, Ken was a very special individual and missed by many. Proud to have been his friend.

I worked with Ken at Eagle Technology starting in 1987. He was a great guy with a wonderful sense of humor. It was my first job as a government contractor and Ken was a wonderful mentor. I am sad to learn of his passing and send prayers to Sharon and the whole family.

I first met Ken at Fort Monmouth, NJ after my return from Desert Shield/Storm. We became immediate friends. Upon my retirement from Government Service, Ken hired me to oversee the startup of the RESET Program for FIREFINDER Radar Trailer Systems. I continued to work for Ken in various positions until his retirement. I can't tell you how sad I was to hear of his passing. Ken was a true professional, and always made sure the War Fighter received the attention they needed for their Radar Systems. Of all the supervisors that I have worked for over the years, he is right at the top. I will continue to pray for him and his family. He will be missed by myself, and all that had the privilege to know him. Rest in Peace my Dear Friend.

Ken always had a kind word for his customers. His job, to serve our soldiers, was never ending. There are no words to explain his generosity and gregariousness. He was a kind man, a generous man, and he will be missed amongst his peers. May god bless his soul and find him a place in Fiddler’s Green to rest.
