Dr. Shanklin was an AWESOME doctor at Wilford Hall Pediatric Plastic Surgery. I'm 54 now and don't remember how old I was when I was his patient. But, the fact that I have nothing but fond memories of him speaks volumes as to his lasting impact on his patients. He used to do a "magic trick" with a tube of Bacitracin ointment. To this day, I cannot do it! He'd somehow squeeze that metal tube to get ointment to come out and then he'd squeeze the metal tube another way and the ointment would go back into the tube. LOL!!

Ken was a fun (really fun) medical school classmate from 1963-1967. Learning seemed to come easy to him as he was consistently at the top of the class. He was smiling and confident. He was Air Force and had to put up with two Army classmates which was good for some camaraderie and friendly military banter. I was sorry to learn of his passing.

My Mom and step Dad, Genne and Jack Despain, lived across the court from Ken and Colleen for many years at Air Force Village II. They were always such nice people and good neighbors. I remember when Jack fell and Ken was the first to get to him and help him get to the hospital. My family will always be grateful to both he and Colleen for the many times they helped our folks and for the fun times they had on that Court. I'm so sorry to hear about his passing. God be with his family.

I will always have fond memories of Ken (and Colleen) - they were always kind, generous, and fun to be around. I will never forget my first small plane ride with Ken (as pilot) and Colleen over the Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon on December 13, 1991. My condolences to the family.
