Kenneth Van Boeyen Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Dec. 1, 2012.
VAN BOEYEN, Kenneth Wayne
Born: September 21, 1945 (67 years)
Died: November 12, 2012
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of beloved father, brother, friend and coach. Ken went home to meet his Lord Jesus the morning of November 12, 2012 in VGH Palliative Care facility after his gallant battle with pancreatic cancer. Predeceased by parents Clarence and Kay Van Boeyen and wife Bridget. Survived by his loving children, Scott and Shannon, brother Gordon (Sandra), partner Martha. Sadly missed by sisters-in-law Linda (Andrew) and Meg and many nieces, nephews and cousins. From the outset Ken saw life as opportunity and adventure. As a boy he pursued all athletics with enthusiasm, courage and sportsmanship. He was a superior athlete in all sports. Although equally capable in tennis, baseball, basketball, football, Ken chose his love for lacrosse as his professional venue. His unique blessings of integrity, talent, energy and humour enabled Ken to realize many other opportunities and endeavours. He was not afraid of hard work and he never quit until the end. Ken had significant input on many private and public companies in pizza, fish, oil and gas, mining and high technologies. His response to fatherhood was with intense joy, a healthy pride and an uncommon sacrificial love for his children, putting them first in his life. During their school years Ken widened his love of Scott and Shannon to include his focus into the lives of their friends as "Coach". Ken was again able to impart his athletic skills, knowledge, techniques, vision and life lessons onto these children as well . He will forever be remembered for his inspiring stories, outrageous sense of humour and unconditional love for his children and the Lord Jesus Christ. "Ken, with so many things to remember you by, you'll be in our minds and hearts forever." A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at the Law Courts Inn Restaurant on the fourth floor of the Supreme Court Building at 800 Smithe St. and Hornby at 4:30 pm on Friday December 14th . The entrance to underground parking is located at the corner of Howe St. and Nelson.

Dear Shannon and Scott,
I am on vacation and just heard about your father's illness and passing. I remember fondly the days at Carnarvon and Kits when he coached both of you in basketball. He was a wonderful man and I was always impressed by the care and love he had for both of you.
My sincere sympathy to you during this difficult time. My sister is currently dealing with pancreatic cancer, too, and we know the heart-aches that it brings.
Take good care,
Lorne Lindsay

Carol & I had the pleasure of Ken's company as a co-assistant soccer coach and as parents of Carnarvan elementary and Kitsilano High School daughters.

We will miss your sense of humour, great conversation and wonderful stories.
