Kent McGaughey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 23, 2018.
Kent McGaughey, 80, of Lufkin, was born October 20, 1937 in Huntington, Texas, the son of the late Essie Mae (White) and Clifton McGaughey. He passed away peacefully Saturday, March 17, 2018 at his residence with family by his side.
Mr. McGaughey was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was retired from Texas Eastman in Longview after more than 25 years of service. He was a member of Carpenter's Way Baptist Church where he especially enjoyed the Agape Class taught by his dear friend John Rowin.
Kent was an avid gardener and loved to give away more produce than he kept. He loved watching sports on his big screen TV, and even caught a little of March Madness before leaving this old world! He found simple pleasure in sitting on the front porch watching the hummingbirds fly around him and feed from one of his many feeders.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dillie (Jordan) McGaughey of Lufkin; daughter, Cyndee McGaughey and husband James Garner of Gladewater; son, Chuck McGaughey and wife Karen of Longview; grandchildren, Amanda and Lance Strickland of Gladewater, Aaron and Ashley Shelton of Longview, Allyson and Nathan Gann of Gilmer, Patric and Patricia McGaughey, Robert and Alana McGaughey, Kate and Blake Jones, all of Longview and Ben McGaughey and Leslie Corbell of Mesquite; 9 great-grandchildren: Abigail, Adison, Andrew, Josiah, Caroline, Myles, Makenzie, Mason and Leiland; sister, Loretta Reed and husband Bradley of Longview; brother, Lynnwood McGaughey and wife Marijo of Tyler; brother and sisters-in-law, Fredonia Eubanks, Hoople and Wilma Jordan, Nada and Donald Minshew, Johnie and Travis Ainsworth, Buddy and Susie Jordan, Dexter and Sue Jordan; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
Memorial contributions in Dad's memory may be made to any of the following organizations: Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75904; Newman Cemetery Fund, 433 Backburn Switch Road Lufkin, Texas 75904; Carpenter's Way Baptist Church, Agape Bible Study Class, 400 North John Redditt Drive, Lufkin, TX 75904; Mission Aviation Fellowship, P. O. Box 47, Nampa, ID 83653; or Neal McCoy's East Texas Angel Network, 2802 Gilmer Road, Suite 1, Longview, TX 75604.
For those attending the service, Dad didn't care for dressing up; he liked his overalls, so please feel free to wear your overalls or jeans. His favorite color was yellow, so if you have something yellow, wear it and make our day a little brighter.
The McGaughey family wishes to express their appreciation and special thanks to the church family, elders and the Agape Class of Carpenter's Way Baptist Church for their continued love and support, the staff and rehab of Willowbrook Nursing Center, especially nurse Colton and aid Sonya, the staff of Hospice In the Pines, especially nurse Lia Minshew and aid Bridgett, and to the doctors, nurses and aids of the IMC unit at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital and above all Richard Harris, Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital Chaplain, who met Daddy in the middle of the night.
A memorial service for Kent will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Carpenter's Way Baptist Church.
