Kermit "Buzz" Ingle

81 years old

Born on August 14, 1943

Passed away on January 23, 2025

Kermit Wade "Buzz" Ingle of Westover, Alabama, born August 14, 1943, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 81. He is survived by his wife, Gwen F. Ingle; his children, Melinda Ingle (Colette), Renee White (Alan), Keri Bulloch (Chris), and Kevin Wagnon (Malin); six grandchildren, Brooke, Zack, Elliott, Lily, Zoe, and Buck; and Winston, his beloved Golden Retriever. He is preceded in death by his parents, Kermit K. and Wilda C. Ingle; his stepmother, Barbara Ingle; and siblings Janet McNeil, Robert Ingle, Ted Todd, and Patricia Male.

Born and raised in Hillsdale, Michigan, Buzz graduated from Michigan State University before embarking on a long and successful career, working for American Home Foods for many years before ultimately retiring in sales from Pfizer. He impacted countless lives, mentoring and inspiring many, including Patty and Ivan Villarreal, exchange students from Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, who regard him as a father figure and credit him with many of their successes.

After retirement he served on the Westover City Council and Zoning Board, traveled the world with his wife and best friend, Gwen, and spent many happy hours working outside their country home. He loved and was loved by dozens of cats and dogs and horses, none of whom he ever called by their real names, preferring to give them nicknames that only he used. This habit extended to his friends and family, especially the grandchildren who gave him so much joy - to have been given a nickname by Buzz was a clear indication of his affection. He took great delight in making people smile and laugh and had an uncanny ability to put them at ease - a simple "hello" from Buzz was infused with so much enthusiasm and good humor that few could resist responding in kind. He will be remembered for his gentleness and patience and wit and generosity, and perhaps most of all for his zest for life and his love for his family and the wife that he adored.

While we are heartbroken to lose him, we are comforted in the knowledge that the seeds of love and goodwill that he planted will continue to grow, and eternally grateful that we were lucky enough to share with him the life that he lived so well.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his memory to the Shelby County Alabama Humane Society, or the charity of your choice.

His family would like to offer their sincere thanks to the team at Grandview Hospital Neuro ICU and Compassus Hospice for their kindness and compassion.

I am incredibly sad to hear about the passing of Buzz. He was a wonderful person who touched the lives of many and was beloved by all who knew him. I always enjoyed spending time with Buzz as we would chat about things we had in common - like Michigan State, sports, animals (especially dogs), yard work, home projects, and our shared memories of growing up in Michigan. We would reminisce about the things we missed from our wonderful state of Michigan - like cherries, blueberries, apples, Better Made potato chips, and Mackinaw Island Fudge.
Some of my best and warmest memories of Buzz are from celebrating Memorial Day and Labor Day holiday weekends at Buzz and Gwen´s home with his daughter Renee, her husband Alan, their kids Brooke and Zack, and his daughter Melinda and her partner Collette. Visiting their home always felt like a vacation to me. Buzz and Gwen were wonderful hosts. Their home was beautiful, with a lake filled with fish, a barn with horses and donkeys, ducks strolling around the property, a relaxing porch swing, walking trails in the forest, a gorgeous outdoor fireplace, and an amazing pool. In the evenings, Buzz would get a fire going for all of us, and we would sit around the fire and relax. I remember telling Buzz how much I appreciated him taking the time to make the fire, as I treasured those moments. He chuckled and said he enjoyed making all of us feel welcomed and happy. Buzz would also shine a big smile and say that he loved watching the fire too.
I will always remember Buzz as a fantastic grill master. He made us steaks, burgers, hot dogs, and bratwurst, while Gwen took care of all the sides and fixings. Buzz never let anyone go hungry and wanted to ensure we had a great meal. I would hang out with him as he cooked on the grill, and he took pride in making sure all the food had the best grill marks. Buzz believed it made the food more appetizing, and I agreed with "Buzz, the BBQ King."
One of my favorite memories was making carpenter bee traps with Buzz and his grandson Zack. One holiday weekend, he wanted to teach Zack how to use all his tools, saws, and drills, so Buzz bought all the materials to make a wooden carpenter bee traps. Buzz noticed my interest and asked if I wanted to join in the fun and help him. Of course, I eagerly said yes. I was impressed with how patient Buzz was with Zack and how he walked through all the steps to make sure Zack could do it. I truly enjoyed being a helper to Buzz, and I still have and use the carpenter bee trap in my yard today. Buzz's caring attitude towards teaching Zack some of his 'tricks of the trade' impressed me.
I feel blessed to have known Buzz and had the opportunity to spend time with him. The loss of Buzz is heartbreaking, and I will truly miss him. I will always remember Buzz with love and cherish the memories - especially his sparkling smile.
With love always, Dawn Adams
