Kermit Carlie Harrell, 89,of 1607 Crow Trail, died Sunday, May 18, 2025 in his home, where he was being cared for by family.

Mr. Harrell was born and raised in Chowan County NC on December 14, 1935 and was the son of Percy Mark Harrell and Annie Mary Nixon Harrell. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 64 years, Mary Russell Harrell. Mr. Harrell worked on the family farm and at the fishery before moving to Suffolk, where he was a supervisor with VDOT. After retiring back to Chowan County he was a member and deacon at Rocky Hock Baptist Church, volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Ruritans, loved fishing and being on the water, loved gospel quartet and country music, and always made time to help others in need.

Surviving are his sons, Charles Roland Harrell of Edenton and Mark DeWitt Harrell and wife, Vickie of Enid, OK; a brother, Roland Gene Harrell and wife, Esther of Suffolk VA; four grandsons, Joshua Harrell and wife, Rachel of Spangdahlem AB, Germany, Christopher Harrell and wife, Keiley of Yokota AB, Japan, Matthew Harrell of Broomfield CO, and Fletcher Harrell of Richmond VA; and five great grandchildren, Caleb, Makayla, Madison, Gemma, and Conner Harrell.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 30, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home Chapel,735 Virginia Road Edenton NC. Friends are invited to visit with the family after the service in the funeral home or all other times at the residence.

The family asks that flowers be omitted and contributions to his legacy be made to Food Bank of the Albemarle,109 Tidewater Way, Elizabeth City, NC 27909, Union Mission Ministries, 5100 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23502, Rocky Hock Ruritan Club or Rocky Hock Baptist Church both, in Edenton NC.
