Kerry Brown Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 11, 2024.
Kerry Alice Brown, 35, passed away Tuesday, February 6, in an ATV accident.

Kerry was born March 11, 1988, and was raised in Asheville, NC. She graduated from AC Reynolds High School, and the Aveda Institute in Charlotte, where she received a degree in Cosmetology. She spent many years working in the food and beverage community in Asheville, but "retired" from the industry when the Sky Bar closed in 2019, where she was a manager. An accomplished artist from an early age, she expressed it in many mediums, not only with her beautiful paintings and cherished handmade gifts, but also with her hair stylist's eye. Her most recent artistic medium was that of food stylist, working with her friend Lindsey at AVL Charcuterie.

Kerry is survived by her parents, Mitchell and Amy Duckett, brothers Samual and Clayton (Iris), and their son, Angel, who she embraced in the roll of "auntie" with joy and gusto. Additionally, surviving are her maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Alicemay Glover, paternal grandparents, Bob and Phyllis Thomson, many aunts, uncles, and adored cousins.

Kerry's orbit was strong and her galaxy of friends is staggering. She embodied a playful and loving spirit, and her love for her family and that galaxy was firm and fierce. There will forever be a hole in the hearts of all of us who loved her, but we know that we will see her beautiful face again when we are no longer in this life.

Her family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Loretta Freeman for her unwavering support to us during the most difficult season in our lives. Also, Lauren Rice and Alan Whitt, both of whom have been our warriors in the face of all the details that are just so difficult. The kind and compassionate professionals we have interacted with in Yancey County, and of course, her legions of steadfast friends.

A memorial celebration of Kerry's life will follow at a later date. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to our family. We are overwhelmed by all of the love we have been shown. For Kerry, go outside and enjoy the water, the wind and the joys of God's creations, just as she so loved to do. Look for the sparkles.

A true artist. Kerry and I had the same art class from middle school into high school. I had the pleasure of sitting beside her as we both sharpened our skills in drawing and painting. Her talent, confidence, and passion truly shined. Her contagious smile and friendly conversation made it easy to be pals and lunch buddies. The different occasions we would meet again, catching up in her chair at the salon, it was as if no time had passed. The years melted away with smiles and laughs. `Til we meet again, my friend.

My first Memory of this very special person was quite a long time ago.. it was at Charles C Bell Elementary School in East Asheville & we were beginning the adventure of grade school. We had just about every class together since Kindergarten and We Always enjoyed each other's company and I remember her just being the most kind hearted, thoughtful, genuine and Especially Hopeful person. She always saw the best in any person and gave people a chance, their own shot at making someone laugh, memories or letting someone tell their story. She was an excellent listener and also helped me or whoever needed it with School work & of course, was always especially happy to do so. I honestly remember her, as well as my older sister, being paramount in me learning to read and write as well I ultimately did & definitely as Soon as I did. Saying Kerry Brown had a heart of Gold would be an understatement.. cos she never changed in any remotely negative ways... She only grew to be a better friend, daughter, student.. a better person is what she had inside her to start every day and would help anyone to discover that betterment about themselves & hell them to find it, hone it and release it unto the world.
My Heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to All her many awesome friends & her remarkable and wonderful family during this time. I only hope that we all can find our own way to Celebrate her life and to carry some of what Kerry brought to all our lives, with us each day. My mother always said cry if something hurts, but please let's remember to celebrate our time with this special person and hold her memory and legacy up in our minds and hearts, each day. Yes, this is time for grieving and mourning an extremely unfortunate, piercing feeling of loss.. But I can't help but smile, any time I think of Kerry, in years past or even now.. just cos hos daggone kind and sweet she was. My Best friend ( R.I.P. Justin) died in high school, freshman year and of course she was there with the most positive outlook and exceptionally encouraging words for how I was obviously feeling. . . We continue to live and so do these people, They will Live on thru us. So Love yourselves, your family & friends, Love each other and be well, do well, just live your best life and if you're ever struggling. . .. think of any memories of these types of bright shinning souls that have blessed our time of this earth.
Big Love to All who ever knew her and may Kerry Brown And her mark on this world Never fade. We will; until we can join in that certain future alongside you & all our loved ones that moved on, Certainly will miss and Send you Love.

Kerry was one of the sweetest and most caring souls I have met. I only met her briefly at my cousins wedding but I noticed how she loved Angel and how welcoming she was towards our family. She will be greatly missed and forever loved.

Sending my love and prayers during your time of loss. Kerry was such a joy. Always smiling. I remember this day specifically and during this photo, she grabbed a hold of me and squeezed me tight. I felt her happiness through that hug. It was a joyous day. I love you so much Kerry

You brought the Love and the Light to so many anywhere you were. I am so thankful that your river family got to spend the last few years playing in the sand and water with you. Such a beautiful human, inside and out. Our river beach will never be the same for so many of us.

If there were ever a word to encapsulate Kerry's legacy, it would undoubtedly be "fun." A soul unlike any other, marching to the beat of her own drum with unwavering conviction and boundless enthusiasm, Kerry approached life with an infectious energy that touched the hearts of all who knew her. She possessed an innate ability to infuse joy into every moment, turning even the simplest of gatherings into unforgettable adventures. Her laughter was like her music, filling the air with warmth and light wherever she went. From road trips to dance parties, Kerry embraced life with a zest that was truly unparalleled.
Beyond her love for excitement and adventure, Kerry possessed a rare authenticity that endeared her to everyone she met. She never pretended to be anyone other than herself, embracing her quirks and imperfections with grace and humor. In a world often defined by conformity, Kerry stood as a beacon of individuality, inspiring others to embrace their uniqueness without apology.
May her spirit continue to guide us on our own journeys, reminding us to always march to the beat of our own drums.

My best friend, now gone, left behind a legacy of love unmarred by conditions or expectations.
I will spend the rest of my life being a storyteller of her magic, and sharing tales of the girl who lit up the universe simply by existing.
