Kerry L. King

Kerry King passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He was born on April 26, 2001, in Gary, Indiana, to proud parents Lutisha King and Kerry Smith. Kerry was the eldest of four children and carried that responsibility with pride and love.

From an early age, Kerry was a young man of faith. He was baptized and openly confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior. He passed peacefully, with his beloved aunt Shavonte by his side.

Kerry graduated from Roosevelt High School in 2019 and later attended Job Corps in Indianapolis, Indiana. Following Job Corps, he worked at Lear in East Chicago and was employed by Huhtamaki in Hammond, Indiana, at the time of his passing.

Kerry's strength, independence, and love for his family were defining traits. Having lost his father before birth and his mother at the age of 17, Kerry stepped up with resilience and maturity far beyond his years. He took on the role of guiding and supporting his siblings, always putting their needs before his own. Dependable and selfless, Kerry could always be counted on-day or night-with a smile and a helping hand.

He loved family gatherings and found joy in being of service to others. Even through illness, Kerry remained courageous. His strength and spirit were unwavering-he was truly a mighty warrior and will never be forgotten.

Kerry was preceded in death by his mother, Lutisha King; father, Kerry Smith; grandmother, Marion Phillips and Great aunt Rev. Ruby welch.

He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory: his brother, Vernon Lamont Reeves Jr; sisters, Latianna Reeves and Laniah Reeves; stepfather, Vernon Lamont Reeves Sr; aunts, Shavonte Trammell, Monique Trammell, Special great aunt Melinda Seisay (Ibrahim), Step aunts Cynthia Allen-McKenzie (Bryant), Tonya Allen- Peterson, and Tomasina Longshore; uncles, Cory Phillips, Otis King Jr., Alfred Trammell. Step uncle Lorenzo Allen. Great uncles ,Percy Phillips, Norris(Latonia) Phillips, Reginald Phillips, Frederick Phillips, and Tracy (Kim) Phillips; special cousins, Elijah Peregrino Moriah peregrino, Cherish Robinson Arillia ward, E'mir Trammell and a host of other friends and relatives.

Kerry's life was a blessing, his memory a treasure. He is loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
