Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 11, 2023.
Kerwin was a beautiful, blond head, caring and loving boy born to Lillian Marie
Pride and Dennis Harris June 20, 1979. During his formative years, he was
raised by his Grandma Mary McClure.
Although Kerwin was an introvert, he was a jokester. He had a personal joke
for almost every person who was close to him. He was also a computer whiz
and was self-taught in both hardware and software… he could fix or solve
almost any problem when it came to computers.
Kerwin was a gifted psalmist as he was always given songs to write. He mostly
loved rap music and even made a couple of CDs. His rap was generally about
things going on in society. Aside from societal issues, Kerwin rapped love
songs, mainly about Jerade (Sharee), his son Tahj’s mom. But those songs were
more than love for the woman… his love was for people. He saw the needs of
people and wanted to make life better for them.
Kerwin ministered to homeless people by gathering clothes for them and even
saving food from KFC, where he worked, to make sure they had a good hot
meal too. He also ministered to his family throughout his life for example, he
cooked and cleaned for his grandma and even gave her pedicures; he showed
his love by helping his cousin Talisa with yard work or spending simple quality
time with his mom; and sometimes just simply loving the mysteries of the stars
as he enjoyed taking time out to observe them for hours.
Early in life Kerwin sought to know of many religions and was an atheist for
most of his life as he came to the conclusion that there was no god. However,
a few months before he transitioned into eternity, the mustard seed of faith
was opened to him. Kerwin then shared with his mom his heart that he
believed in God. He begin to quickly grow spiritually in Christ.
Kerwin moved into eternity December 28, 2022. He was preceded in death by
his Father, Dennis Harris, and his aunt, Deborah O’Kain. He leaves behind to
remember his life on earth, his mother, Lillian Pride; his grandmother, Mary
McClure; his son, Tahj Quattlebaum and his son’s mom, Jerade Quattlebaum;
his two brothers, Cory and George Pride. He also leaves behind his mother’s
siblings: James Pride, Floyd Pride, Richard Pride, Darryl Williams, Gina Parker,
Wendel Pride, and Sammy Williams. His father’s family: his grandmother Aster
O’Kain, his great uncles Bruce and Herman Bowery, and his aunts, Loin
Bowery, and Rosie Tate. He also leaves behind cousins and friends
Son, I wish I could wake up and see you standing there.
Then I would know that it was just a nightmare.
Son, I remember when you were small and how you would hold my hand,
and as you grew older you became my best friend.
Son, I have 44 years of memories that I will treasure and keep safe in my heart.
We share a bond that time and distance can never break apart.
Son, oh how my heart aches so.
I would love to have you back and never let you go.
Son, where there was happiness,
now there is sadness.
Son, how I long to hear your voice and see your beautiful smile
and have you back for just a little while.
Son, until that day I see you again,
I will look to the sky and search among the stars for my son and best friend.
Love,
Mom
