Kevin BATEMAN Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald on Aug. 28, 2017.
BATEMAN, Kevin Glen
It is with great sadness that the family of Kevin Glen Bateman announces his peaceful passing, on August 21, 2017 at the age of 59. He had fought a valiant battle against cancer the last two years and was looking forward to going back to work and travelling, when suddenly he was taken by complications of the liver. The family and friends wish to extend their most sincere thank you to the doctors and nurses of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre/Foothills Hospital and the doctors and nurses of the Intensive Care Unit of University Hospital/Edmonton. A special thank you to Beverly White for her endless care and brother Wayne for home care and dedicated support. Kevin, beloved son of his Mother Lyla, and lovingly remembered by his Brother Wayne (Lynette) Nephew Ryder (Fairone), Great-Nephew Hudson, Nieces Haley and Casey. Predeceasing Kevin was his Father Ken Bateman, Nephew Travis Bateman and Uncle Robert Gibson. Kevin will also be forever remembered by Cousins Beverly White (Jim) Kayla (Shawn), Darlene Sterling (Steve) and family and Brian Gibson. Uncles Jack Bateman and family, Wallace Bateman and family, Aunts Betty Gibson and Evelyn Muggaberg. Treasured friends who stood by him in good times and bad for so many years Jeff Houck, Michael Verdi, Judy Thain, Helen Dexter-Green, Georgia Robertson, and many CNRL colleagues and friends. A private gathering for family and friends has been held. A Celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2017 at New Castle Pub 17th Ave SW. Kevin , although not quiet, had a quiet strength about him that was to prove beneficial the past two years during his fight with cancer. However, the most endearing quality of this precious man, besides his love for family and friends was his quick dry sense of humour. This was often summed up by his unique phrase "That is the magic that is Me".

Kevin and I were great friends for many years and only drifted apart when I moved to BC for a short time. Some of the most fun I had was when we were roommates in Bromley Square and working at the Calgary Tower together. I only wish he had reached out to let me know he was ill. My heart is broken today having just found out. I will spend a lot of time looking at my wedding pictures where you were the life of the party. I love you Kev.

Wayne and I as teens were always amazed at Kevin's easy going successful ways! He was quiet and unassuming and always had friends in his room. He seemed to be unstressed when we were going through the most stressful time of our lives. He moved through this life quietly but had a big impact on many! He will be missed. Love to Kevin his friends and surviving family. bob beattie
