Kevin Budd Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 26 to Mar. 28, 2018.
Kevin Scott Budd 2018
St. Louis, MO—Kevin Scott Budd, age 60, was a loving husband and parent, survived by wife Karen, two step children, Kate and Reid, parents Ron and Dar, brother Kent (Julie), and two nieces, Claire (Sam Frank) and Kelsey, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Preceeded in death by deceased maternal and fraternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Arnold and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Budd.
Kevin grew up in Lincoln, IL and graduated from SIU Carbondale. He nurtured his passion for cycling working at a bike shop before beginning a long career as a teacher. He became a talented and popular science teacher at Nerinx Hall in St. Louis, and was known for engaging his students with his jokes, popcorn, and crossword puzzles. He became head of the science department, and positively influenced many young people.
He was also a passionate adventurer with many hobbies. He loved sailing, and spent weeks at a time navigating his boat across Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. He spent time outdoors camping, rock climbing, caving, and mountain biking and shared these activities with students, friends, and family. Kevin explored Yellowstone in winter, and canoed Ozark waterways and Quetico Park in Ontario.
Kevin also loved building, maintaining and restoring things, with projects ranging from classic motorcycles to woodworking and remodeling. He was self-taught, but developed remarkable skills. He was always very generous with his time and talents. He rode his motorcycles often, including a recent cross country trip to California--visiting some of his many friends along the way.
Kevin's adventures included travel to Europe and Mexico, and eco-trips with student groups to Costa Rica. He liked cooking and entertaining, an occasional round of golf, and being with friends and family as much as possible. Kevin was also an avid dog lover, and shared his heart with wonderful pets. Kevin enriched the lives of many, many people and he will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Kevin's life will be held on April 4th at 2:00pm at Nerinx Hall High School, 530 East Lockwood Ave., St. Louis, Mo, 63119. The service will be followed by a celebration of Kevin's life.
Memorials may be given to the Kevin Budd Memorial Scholarship Fund(see the above address or online).

Mr. Budd was one of my favorite teachers at Nerinx. It was during my time at NH, I was able to see the relationship grow between him and Ms. Johnson-Budd. Those two "courted" so well and it was so cute to see their love blossom. I will forever remember chemistry class and Mr. Budd's crazy, goofy smile. He was sympathetic and oh so patient. Such great memories and so much fun those 4 years. Thanks Kevin!!!

Years ago we sat with Kevin at parent-teacher conferences as he kindly told about our daughters' achievements in science and his assurance to help them as best he could. Years later, Kevin and Karen became our neighbors and their kindness continued. We have been honored to know Kevin. We are saddened that the world is without him, but are certain his goodness is found in each student he taught and changed for the better and his ready smile remembered by every neighbor he came to know. Now, that is a life well-lived.

Kevin was such a positive influence on students and faculty, I don't think I ever heard him complain or say a negative word about anyone. I will remember him smiling. Gone too soon, but not without leaving a legacy of a love of science and adventure.

While words fail to capture the pain of losing a loved one, we look forward to the time when words will fail to capture the joy of having our Heavenly Father return your dear one to you. John 6:40
