Kevin L. Friend

NEWPORT NEWS - Kevin Lavon "Tuck" Friend was born Dec. 30, 1956, in Newport News, to Mary F. Friend and the late Thomas A. Friend Sr., departed this life on Saturday, May 18, 2002, in Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, VA. He was a 1975 graduate of Warwick High School. He was employed for a number of years with Weaver Bros. Lumber Co. prior to moving to Northern, VA. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marquita; his father, Thomas A. Friend Sr.; and stepfather, Herman E. Shields. He leaves to cherish his memories two daughters, Kevara Jenkins (and her mother, Dorothy Jenkins) of Washington, D.C., and Quanita Wright of Hampton; his mother, Mary Friend-Shields of Yorktown; two brothers, Thomas A. Friend Jr. (USMC, Retired) and wife, Dorothy, Ronald A. Friend Sr. and wife, JoAnn; one grandchild, Semaj Jenkins of Washington, D.C.; aunts, Maria Holliday of Chester, PA, Alice Gant of Delaware, Ella Friend of Hampton; and uncle, Tony Friend (Rosa) of Hopewell, VA; nieces, Taleisha Friend of Wash., DC, Capt. Tanéha Carter (U.S. Army) (Charles) of Ft. Hood, TX, Robin E. Friend of Newport News; nephew, Ronald A. Friend (Sherri) of Newport News; three stepsisters and a host of other relatives and friends including a loving devoted soulmate, Trina Everette, Woodbridge, VA. He will be missed by all that knew him for having the ability to bring laughter and a smile. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday at O.H. Smith and Son Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Arrangements are by O.H. Smith and Son Funeral Home.
