Your grand- girl ("Ava Gardner") who was, like you, born premature, 11 weeks early. Her c section was slotted by the doctors on your actual birthday-still, she kept the number 24, like you, and arrived on 12/24. You both came home on St Patrick´s Day. You both are visionaries. She looks so much like you. And Liam: he opens his mouth and so much PURE Kevin comes out. I know there are those who Ty to honor you in imitation, then there are those where it´s both effortless and uncanny. Things they couldn´t have known you´d say. They say time heals all wounds, but it was you who told me that "we never *get over * anything" -we learn to move with the pain, but we don´t get over the loss. When you died: I was with you. Then later read the line in your play "I was the first face you looked upon and you shall be the last that I see"
And that turned out to be the truth. Writers and prophets: you are one and the same.

From our business's Facebook post: We were very saddened to read that Kevin Harvey, long-time customer and friend of the store died on July 31st after an illness. Kevin stopped in here often to discuss a wide range of subjects with various employees and other customers. Kevin laughed easily. He was as comfortable discussing poetry and plays as he was talking comic books and pop-culture. In fact, we remember vividly what might very well have been Kevin's happiest day in the store: May 7, 2005. On that day, Kevin engaged in a long, rollicking conversation with Bill Griffith, legendary underground cartoonist and creator of the surreal and iconic comic strip "Zippy the Pinhead." We'll miss Kevin very much. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.

I’d like to offer my deepest and sincere condolences to the Harvey family, as well as prayers of peace and comfort during these trying times. I’d just like to recollect on my time at New England College, and how much of an impact and influence Professor Harvey had on me. Being a Creative Writing major I had the pleasure of having him all 4 years and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I now see the importance of giving people their flowers while they can still smell them, because I’m not sure he even knew just how much of an impact he had on me in my 4 years at NEC. I speak about him often and I always reminisce on the many conversations we had about; baseball (always found it appalling him being from Mass and being such a huge yankee fan lol), boxing, we were both huge Sugar Ray Robinson fans, and of course writing and the arts. I was saddened and devastated to hear the news of his passing, but I’m grateful for all the wonderful memories he has left us to cherish. Rest In Peace and power Kev you were a true legend and I’m thankful to have known you.

Prof. Harvey was an amazing prof I was immensely fortunate to have him as a student for his creative writing class... His teaching method was very laid back and he made you want to think outside of the norm of what others would condon as right and wrong... The kingdom has received a true warrior and he'll greatly and deeply be missed by all within NEC community... My deepest condolences to his family.

My heart goes out to the Harvey family, and I wish you peace, somehow, during this difficult time. I had the extreme good fortune of meeting Kevin (& Tina!) when they moved in to their house in Worcester and next door to my parents. Who could have known that visiting my parents would lead to such a tremendous friendship, loads of laughs, great lunch and movie experiences, remarkable insight on music, sports, Yankee's lore (said the Red sox fan), literature, movies, boxing, and countless other topics during our infamous "driveway chats." I will treasure my copy of "Albert" as much as the fond memories of time spent with him. The article by Janice was magnificent and the write up about him here is perfect. Much love to you Tina, Ellery, & Kate and of course Liam & Grace.

Janice & Harvey Family,
My sincerest condolences to you and your family for your loss.

I was surprised to hear he was ill. Norma's sister, Patricia a close friend of Tina, told her.

I was sadden and stunned by his sudden passing. Your words in WM about Kevin were so loving and enlightening to me. You wrote things that I never knew about him. Your personal stories are wonderful memories of him. Thank you for sharing them. You brought me to tears and made me smile.

My memory of him was he was cerebral but very down to earth. Great sense of humor. I feel fortunate to have known him.

Kevin and I had a common bondmusic. Whenever we would get together at a family gathering we would eventually work our conversation around to music.

What amazed me about him was his vast eclectic knowledge of most music genres. I thought I knew music. Next to him I was a journeyman. He would e-mail his articles he wrote on different music/artists to me.

At one family gathering he asked if I had a copy of an old local group singing Josephine. I don't remember the group. I think it was the Joneses? If I remember he said he used to have a copy but no longer. I didn't have one but I know a guy. My guy had a copy sent me a CD of it. When I told Kevin I had a copy for him it was like I gave him a lost treasure. I was very pleased to see his joyful reaction. He called me his hero.
He knew I was a huge Sinatra fan. Once he told me about a fascinating Sinatra book he was reading. The next time I saw him he gave me the book to keep.

He will be missed.

Best Regards,

Bill & Norma Garcia

Kevin was the underground musical genius in our class at Burncoat> Its easy to picture him standing at the "Egyptian Screen" talking up George Harrison as the real genius Beatle. Rest in peace.

My deepest sympathy to the Harvey family. I knew Kevin mostly through the 60s and 70s and 80s. He was part of "the group" we hung out with. Many, many fun times. He gave us our first kitten in the late 80s. So many memories of our youth. Rest well in that big library in the sky.

I had the honor of knowing Kevin as a Faculty Member of New England College. During his tenure, I enjoyed his humor, stories & wit when he came to visit the Registrar's office where I was a staff member. He was sorely missed when he retired and will continue to be missed. A Great man, wonderful professor and an amazing human being. May God Bless you always Kevin. Christine S.
