Kevin Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 20, 2024.
On February 14, 2024, the world lost a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Kevin passed away suddenly in the early morning hours on Valentines Day; a day rooted in love, fitting for a man so dearly loved by those who had the pleasure of knowing him. A captain of industry in the IT consulting space, Kevin embodied hard work, commitment and determination. Kevin is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia (Cindy), his cherished sons, Brett (Brenna) and Sean (Tori), his amazing granddaughter Ryan, his spunky grandsons Quinn, Shae and Smith, his fur grandchildren Lucy and Chief, his sister Maureen O'Such (Jerry Eisenstein), and two nieces Elizabeth and Julie (Andrew). Kevin was predeceased by his father and mother, John and Teresa Johnson and his sister Eileen Batista and her husband Gary.

Kevin grew up in South Amboy, NJ and went on to attend the University of Dayton, eventually settling in Far Hills, NJ. Kevin had a heart of gold. He always supported those in need, be it professionally or personally, and he served on the board of trustees at his alma mater, Saint Joseph High School; an organization that he was honored to be a part of.

Kevin started his technology career, at the ripe age of 17, working for New York Telephone. Known for his technical expertise in network design, he joined Merrill Lynch; a position that took him to 48 out of the 50 states. In the early 80s, Kevin joined Walsh Lowe & Associates as their fifth employee and over time he stepped into the role of the firm's rainmaker. Under his leadership as President and CEO Kevin grew the company to 125 employees and designed trading floors for the top firms on Wall Street - most notably UBS in Stamford, CT, Drexel Burnham Lambert's X shaped trading floor in Beverly Hills, and the technology build outs of Merrill Lynch's World Financial Center and Corporate Campus in Plainsboro, NJ. Kevin's commitment to excellence eventually brought Walsh Lowe across the pond where they opened a London office to support the IT infrastructure of Canary Wharf. For the past 20+ years, Kevin has operated his own firm KP Johnson & Associates to continue his life's passion for helping clients with their IT design requirements, servicing a number of industries in the tri-state area.

While spending time in the boardroom lit him up, no role made Kevin more proud than being a grandfather or as his grandchildren preferred "Pop Pop/Poppy." Spending time with his family and spoiling his kids with the latest gadgets brought him immense joy. A mentor, confidant and adored friend to many, Kevin's larger than life personality equipped with witty one liners, comedic quips and silly faces will never fade away. He loved cooking, his annual tomato jarring, happy hours and fishing excursions with his best buds, and his trips to Florida.

He will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kevin's honor to Saint Joseph High School in Metuchen, NJ.

Very sad to hear of his passing. Kevin was a great mentor and friend, and I have many great memories of working with him and spending time away from work. I remember the first time I met him in Hoboken; he was holding "court" after work, and he seemed larger than life, even though I was taller than he was. My deepest sympathies and condolences to Cindy, Brett, Sean, and their families.

Since becoming aware of Kevin's passing my last few days have been filled with memories of playing basketball with him as a child / teen. Our summer days were filled with playing 'ball' at the Sixth Street and Mechanicsville courts. We had a decent walk home together ,as he lived merely three doors up from us, and shared all of the thoughts and conversations that pre-teens and teens had back in the 60's. I also went to St Joe's a year behind Kevin and came to comprehend his passion for knowledge, problem solving and budding leadership abilities. A true friend he was like another brother in addition to the four I had at the time and my family's thought and prayers are with his family.
