Kevin Murphy

My deepest sympathies to Kevin's family. My prayer is that you will be comforted by God, and will remember the warm, wonderful and funny person he was.
Whenever I asked about his plans for the weekend, it seemed he was happiest when he got to spend time with his boys. He loved to tease me and others who made special requests, like a grilled cheese & tomato sandwich, and would pretend to forget my name if I didn't stop by for lunch for a few days. He will be missed by many at Steelcase.

Bridget and family, my thoughts are with you at this time. Here's a big hug from an old Grand Haven friend.

Memorial service honoring Kevin's life will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Unity Church of Practical Christianity, 1711 Walker NW in Grand Rapids.

As I recall, Kevin was the epitome of laid-back. As he associated with the many raging maniacs of our circle, he always maintained his solid values and his unfailing stability. He could live in one world, with his feet firmly planted in traditional values, and he did it with style and grace. Nothing drew him away from Sue and their family. I had the pleasure of seeing him at Family Fare with the kids not too long ago. He was one of the few success stories of our old circle. Kevin, your life was not for naught, and your influence will remain as long as the memories of your friends. God bless.

I remember Kevin back when we were at Kendall. I liked reading his copy of the Weekly World News on Sundays when the headlines were too hard to resist.

I can't believe that I am writing this. I always looked forward to seeing Kevin. I marveled at how he took great care to make whatever I wanted and how he had great pride in doing that. My lunch at Steelcase will never be the same without him.........There was more to Kevin than that though. He was a man of great depth. I shall miss him greatly.

Kevin...I will never forget your smile when I asked for my "fluffies" each morning at work. You made them especially for me. We exchanged many humorous remarks,which always made my day. I will miss you, my friend.

I received some Pepperridge Farms soups for Xmas back when we were roommates. One of them was Vichyssoise. I had no idea how to pronounce it. Kevin said "it's pronounced Vee Shee Swah. It's potato soup. Best served cold." I was so amused with his response that for weeks I would ask him to confirm the pronunciation. And every time, with a mild smirk and without hesitation... "it's pronounced Vee Shee Swah. It's potato soup. Best served cold."

Your creativity, unique ways of expression, personified artistic excellence. Your mastery in the kitchen is much like the recipes of success you cooked up in life. Some dishes tasted horrible and other dishes tasted incredible. No matter what, you brought ingredients together that most people would never think would go together. That unique ingredient, Kevin Dee Murphy went well with everything. I will catch you on the flip side brother... M.F.O'Halloran

Kevins family,
I know I am speaking for so many of us at Steelcase. Kevin was such a great guy to have greet us each morning with his cooking, humor and smile... he is so missed by so many of us here. I am so very sad for your loss.

My most sincere condolences to the Murphy families. Nobody could dislike this man. All of my memories of him are happy and always will be.

The photo was taken on Labor Day weekend at a family gathering after a day at the beach. I had no idea that would be the last time I would see or speak with my little brother. Live each day like it's your last. Sean Murphy.

This is shocking sad news. My condolences to Kevin's family and fellow friends. We were room mates at Kendall. I always remember that dry humor. He will be missed.

My sincerest condolences to the friends and family in this time of sorrow and loss. He was a good friend and colorful company who always seemed to be of contagious good cheer. He will be missed.
