My condolences to all of Kevin's family and close friends. We, the coaching community got word of his passing immediately and everyone found out quickly. I had heard several months ago he was battling cancer and even though we knew it was something he couldn't win, it still hits hard and we're never prepared to hear sad news. I considered Kevin a good friend and have known him over 30 years since I started coaching in '71. We always enjoyed visiting, catching up, sharing a joke, and an occasional dinner. The swimming community will miss him, he was a great guy, good friend, and excellent coach. My heart felt prayers and thoughts go out to all who were closest to Kevin. Peace brother!!

Kevin was my very first swim coach in Mtn. View, CA. He came to our house to give my twin brother and I lessons and become a good friend of the family. He coached the Mtn. View Dolphins swim team at the local highschool and all of us young girls had a huge crush on him! Driving around town in his VW bug, pulling into the school parking lot screeching tires and blaring music, and Hawaiian shirts and flipflops! The bronzed tan and huge smile and gentle spirit, thats what I remember of Kevin, and I was only 7 yrs. old when we first met! I had a HUGE crush for years until he went back to Hawaii for awhile and life moved on. I'm in my early 40's now and have thought about him over the years, old childhood friends and I still cherish our memories of him and the fun we had. He would be proud to have know my twin earned a swimming scholarship to USC thanks to Kevin's lessons in our pool at age 7! He would have dinner with our family often, and we loved him coaching the local swim team for years.......I just heard via an email from a childhood parent who told me of his passing. I don't have any info about him or his life since the early 70's in Mtn. View ,CA. But he was loved by us all, and he taught us lifelong lessons in the pool. He was more than a coach, he was a friend and always took time to give me a hug and smile, I'm sure he knew he melted my heart at age 7, but he was always so cool, so free, so kind and gentle......quite a memory I have of him after 35 years....that shows you he made a long lasting impression on me...Rest in Peace Kevin , I'msure you are surfing those big waves in Heaven and brightning our sky with your smile!
