Arthur Pennala Obituary

Arthur 'Art' William Pennala, 78, of Babbitt, died Sunday, July 24, 2005 in his home. Art was born May 23, 1927, in Ely, Minn., the son of Arthur and Helen (Enwright) Pennala. He married Katharina 'Kathy' Pflugl on Feb. 13, 1956 and was a life long resident of the Winton and Babbitt areas. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Reserve Mining Company for almost 30 years. Art enjoyed the outdoors with fishing, hunting, biking, walking, gardening and playing pool. He enlisted in the U.S. Army serving during World War II and the Korean War. Art was a longtime member of the Woodland Presbyterian Church, active for almost 50 years, and was a member of the Babbitt VFW 1539 and the Maki-Pinola American Legion Post 0535. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Don and Chuck Pennala. Art is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathy; children, E. Robert 'Bob' Pennala of St. Paul, Sue (Bob) Arvola of Mt. Iron, Lori (Alan) Johnson of Arvada, Colo., and Mike Pennala of Hibbing; grandchildren, Marie and Bryan Arvola, and Alex, Ashley, and Troy Johnson; sisters, Clarice (Harry) Wood of Seeley Lake, Mont., and Janice (Jim) Warner of North St. Paul; and numerous nieces and nephews. FUNERAL SERVICE:1 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, in the Woodland Presbyterian Church in Babbitt. Pastor Anna Williamson will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment, with Military Honors accorded by the Babbitt Honor Guard, will follow in the Argo Cemetery, Babbitt. Family Services provided by Kerntz Brothers, A Bauman Family of Funeral Home in Ely.
