Kimberly Casey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 11, 2025.
Kimberly Beth Casey passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2025. Though it was far too soon, Kim led a full, intentional life, chasing and creating beauty and joy wherever she went. Her journey stated in Cranbury, New Jersey, where she was born to Linda and Richard Kervan in 1978. Kim's thirst for adventure and new experiences next led her to Michigan after high school, where she met the love of her life, Dave Casey. Kim and Dave shared more than twenty years of marriage, eventually planting roots in Wausau where they raised three beautiful children: Lilyan, Miles, and Jackson.

Kim's passions were many and varied, and all focused on squeezing the most of every single moment of her one precious life. She loved travel: whether painstakingly planning her next sailing adventure with Dave, or a spontaneous trip to wherever she could catch a flight on a free weekend. She sang and danced her way through life: finding the best live music in town (as long as there was room to dance), and leading the family in rousing renditions from their favorite musicals. Kim was always on the hunt for new treasures at any thrift store she came across, and had a mind for imagining what upcycled craft she might be able to put together with her finds next. She poured herself into making the family cabin feel just right, and her excitement about every animal that came to visit will forever serve as a reminder of her. She loved learning and trying new things.

Before she had kids, Kim was an accomplished chef. After she became a mother, cooking became an expression of love, to the benefit of family and friends instead of restaurant-goers. As she emerged from early-parenthood, Kim discovered a love of fitness and made the YMCA her second home, where she became a champion for self-care; motivating and challenging others to be their best selves as a fitness instructor and personal trainer.

Kim had a kind soul and a warm heart. Her impact on the people around her was widespread. A self-proclaimed "people person," Kim had a special gift for making meaningful immediate connections with new people, and then she put care into nurturing those connections and turning them into deep, enduring relationships. Kim's smile could light up a room, and her silliness and sense of humor could make anyone laugh (and sometimes blush). She brightened the world for everyone who crossed her path and her energy was contagious. Everyone who knew her was better for it.

Above all, Kim's greatest passion was her family. She was a fiercely devoted mother and a loyal partner. She loved being a mom-tirelessly playing with the kids; creating games, crafts, hibernation days, musical instruments and more. She and Dave were a powerful team, sharing an unshakeable bond and storybook love, perfectly complementing each other in parenthood and in life. Kim's legacy lives on in her family. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her husband, Dave Casey, and their children: Lilyan, Miles, and Jackson. She is further survived by her father, Richard Kervan; her brother, Michael (Gina) Kervan; a large extended Casey family who welcomed her as one of their own; and a community of grieving friends and chosen family across Wausau and the country. Kim is preceded in death by her mother, Linda Watkins (f.k.a. Kervan).

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Jefferson Room at the Jefferson Street Inn on Sunday, June 15, 2025 from 1:00-4:00 pm. In lieu of memorial gifts or flowers, Kim would just hope that when you come across a stranger or a person in need, you might share some kindness or brighten someone's day.

My wonderful Ypsi friend Kim! Such a delightful person to be around; other words can't explain, but when Kim was in your company it felt naturally warm, gracious, and energizing. A gifted creative woman of natural human spirit and compassion. My heart goes out to Dave, family and friends.

Sending so much love and support to Kim's family. When I met Kim, I remember thinking "What a ray of sunshine!" - truly. My heart aches for her family, especially Dave and kids. Although irreplaceable, I will share her kindness and light with those that need it or simply just with those who mean most to us every day. Please know that our community cares and to reach out or lean on others for support. <3

I've known Kim since first grade. I remember watching my first R rated movie (Pretty Woman) at her sleepover in fifth grade and watching 3 Men and a Baby and the lore about what hpnd on the set. She was on cheer w me, being captain our senior year, and you could just tell it was in her blood. She would tell us how her mom and grandma (if i remember) were both on squad so she was gonna be too! And she personified a cheerleader. Dedicated to the team, always happy. When she got her dog a few yrs ago, I immediately msgd her being a fellow dog nut. My thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this time. From Vikings to Little Tigers, I'll remember you fondly. PHS Class of '96. Love, Allison P

I met Kim when she joined the team at While Foods in Ann Arbor (the old, tiny store that now houses Trader Joe´s) I knew Dave from Eastern. I remember a particularly fun night.

We were all starving so Kim went to see about the food situation. She made us the most amazing veggie dogs wrapped in tortillas with a little ranch dressing. I know it was Kim´s magical way of making things better and brighter just with her beautiful face that made that veggie dogs so good. It had to be, since I have tried to recreate that magical veggie dog a few times, and it was never good. At all.

I know everyone, especially Dave, Lilyan, Miles and Jackson are learning just how sad things that were once made magical by Kim may seem. I´m so sorry she´s gone. When you find yourself missing your wife, your mama, your friend, think about the ways she made you feel special and do things for each other to keep her energy in your lives. She loved you in a way that only she could. Her beauty lives in your hearts and will always be there when you need it most.

Sending energy and love for the hard road ahead.

Love,
Anna Brogan

My favorite memory of Kim is playing Qwirkle on the floor with her while Lilyan jumped on my back and used me as a human jungle gym...many years ago. Time moves too fast and I regret not making more trips to Wausau to play more games with Kim. My heart aches for all that loved her, of which there are so many. The world has lost an amazing person.

My heart is full for David , Lilyan, Miles and Jackson who have lost their partner and mother too soon. As her sister in law I had the privilege of hearing Kim sing at every Christmas gathering, taste her cooking [ always infused with love] at many a Thanksgiving, and best of all, watch her embrace the world with enthusiasm and wonder when traveling and sailing.
One of my favorite memories of Kim was the week we spent together in Barcelona. She explored the city on foot, logging more than 22,000 steps a day exploring small neighborhoods as enthusiastically as unesco sites. It was her first trip to Europe and she frequently remarked that she "couldn't wait to come back with Dave". August 2024 that European trip became a reality when we had the joy and privilege of sailing the Pontine Islands in Italy together with Dave as captain. I like to think of Kimberly on a beautiful beach somewhere, reveling in her love of the ocean and adding to her sea glass collection to bring home and share with her children.
Kim was a light that time cannot dim.
