Kimi Yamamoto Obituary

Kimi Yamamoto

Kimi Yamamoto was born in Tacoma, WA to Masataro and Yaeko Sakaguchi. She graduated in 1940 from Stadium High School in Tacoma. Kimi remained in Tacoma for most of her youth until she was forced to relocate to Japanese-American Internment camps during WWII. She was first in the Pinedale Assembly Center for three months in 1942, then later moved to Tule Lake in Northern California followed by Topaz, Utah. She remained in the camps for 3 years. Kimi rose above the injustice of internment and thrived in her adult life. She worked as an Administrative Assistant at Blue Cross from 1955 until she retired in 1987. She was an avid bowler and met her husband, Floyd Yamamoto, while pursuing this passion. Floyd worked hard to get her attention, and eventually they married in 1950. Together they enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling and kicking up their heels with ballroom dancing. Her family and friends remember her as loving, generous, gentle and gracious. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; brother, Ken; and sister, Sachi. Kimi is survived by her sister-in-law, June and many nieces and nephews as well as grand and great-nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Kline-Galland Home and Hospice Services. They were instrumental in Kimi's care.

Kimi passed peacefully into heaven at the age of 92 surrounded by her family. There will be a private family memorial service at a later date. Inurnment will be held at the family niche at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue, Washington.
