I remember Kimon and his wife Gail from my graduate school years at Cornell. I didn't know them very well, but we acted together in a production of Julius Caesar. They were good people and I always wondered what had happened to them. Sorry to read this so many years later.

I just looked up Kimon because he was one of my best teachers when I was at the University of Montreal. Sadly, I found his obituary. I will always remember his passion which was so well conveyed by his knowledge, his elocution and his tremendous voice. Thank you Kimon.

Kimon was a greatly valued intellectual partner in so many ways, a man of vision, an unorthodox thinker. I was away when he died and was not informed. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Je suis très peinée d'apprendre le décès de Monsieur Valakakis. Il était un excellent professeur et un homme très gentil et simple même s'il était connu mondialement et une sommité dans son domaine.

A challenging friend and colleague over a number of decades -- and many shared meetings. A departure much to be regretted

What a loss of such an accomplished gentleman !
We met around 1968 through his friend Paris and sporadically ran into each other at lectures and other events, where we "solved" the problems of the world over coffee. I managed to get his book The Conserver Society to the attention of the Carter administration in Washington.
I was amazed how he carried on several careers, despite the untimely loss of two fine and accomplished wives, Gail and later, Iris. Sincere condolences to his sons and family

Mr. Valaskakis was our dear professor of economics at the University of Montreal. He was classy, imposing and smart, and he made us think by letting us ask him questions to lead class discussion. As a role model, he inspired us like no other. We should be grateful to have known such a man.

I have known Kimon for more than 40 years. We lost a man with exceptional clarity of mind, ability to see into the future, comprehend the complex economic and sociopolitical issues of our time and propose just and workable solutions to the current problems facing our world. He was a humanist and an economist, I am proud to have been his friend, colleague and associate. My condolences to his family and may his memory be eternal!

I'm so sad that that we'll no longer get news of Kimon's aspirations for the New School of Athens at Wednesday Nights. I always appreciated that he was putting into words and actions so much of what I believe might make our world a better place.
My condolences to his family

An absolutely amazing human being.
-An old friend

July 9, 2016

I first met Kimon when we were graduate students in economics at Cornell University. We continued to be friends and colleagues over these many years. It was my suggestion that he "try" teaching in Montreal for a few years. He did and he stayed. I will miss him as a person and someone with whom I could discuss complex issues in a reasoned and reasonable way. I have lost a friend and the world has lost someone who has made major contributions to the domestic and global policy debate.

Please notify details re: the memorial service for Kimon.
