Kirk Anthony "Captain K" Rogers, 75, took his journey across the rainbow bridge August 8, 2025, at 8 p.m in Farmington, New Mexico. Born on February 12, 1950, in Holly Hills, Colorado, Kirk lived a life of compassion, creativity, and had an unmistakable presence that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Kirk lived a bigger life by 27 than most by age 90. The quarter back of the Cherry Creek High School football team, met Sherry at age 15 and they married at 20. Moving to the little cabin in Colorado's mountains he become a father to his beautiful little boy and darling baby girl. Kirk heli-skied in the Bugaboos and back country skied from Crested Butte to Creed CO. He surfed a hurricane in Mazatlán and studied studied Buddhism and religions of the world.

Life redefined from a chair, Kirk advocated for the universe in a human body but was physically and mentally free by being an avid swimmer and painter, pursuits that reflected both his ability to endure and his deep well of introspection. In his way he embraced fatherhood and all relationships with unlimited love. These moments became cherished memories for those who shared them with him.

Later known affectionately as "Captain K", due to love of Star Trek, Kirk continued to be a large presence with a gravitational pull that drew people into his orbit. He was an artist not only in the traditional sense but also in the way he shaped his world and relationships. Whether through brushstrokes on canvas or the quiet counsel he offered to those in need, Kirk created beauty and meaning wherever he went.

Kirk's pace and rhythm, uniquely his own, was never hurried by the world around him, and because of that he took time to listen deeply and engage fully or not at all. He carried judgments yet loved as if they were less important than human connection. His compassion extended far beyond family; he was always willing to stop for someone in need of guidance, some treats for the life guards or simply a kind word and a painted rock.

Kirk lives on through his son Sundance (Shannon) Rogers; daughter Jenny Moon Rogers; brother Paul and sister-in-law Jilly bean Rogers; granddaughters Maycie and Kallie Rogers; and niece Germaine (Andy) Emslie. He was preceded in death by his parents Anna and Paul Rogers, as well as his sisters Laura and Lisa Rogers.

A memorial service celebrating Kirk's life will be held forever as he didn't believe in time.

May the memory of Captain K bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire lives touched by his kindness and authenticity.

I am so sorry for your hurting hearts.
Kirk and I were Holly Hills "besties" even before kindergarten. Even then, he possessed a charged, positive personality and held a magnetic draw on other creative people. At this age, we took our wagons and "ran away from home." By the time it was growing dark, we were exploring the dangerous, newly excavated basements of nearby homes under construction. The headlights of my dad's truck were such a welcome sight! Through thick and thin and many years, we stayed in touch. That I had such a friend is one of life's true treasures. So many people will miss Kirk. He was a gift.

Kirk and Sherry were the King (football star) and Queen (homecoming queen) sweethearts of Cherry Creek high school.
They continued to be always well- loved in college at University of Colorado.
A standout. Extraordinary and ahead of his time, in ways good, and also with problems too many face in our world today, Kirk has reportedly lived with continued compassion and productivity through his art and attitude no matter what became his circumstances. If we could all leave a similar legacy!!!

A Brother

Paul Rogers

August 21, 2025

We were brothers. Writing a short reflection that covers a lifetime or "try and catch the wind" - same thing. We were close especially since he moved to Aztec, but not always. My job since we were toddlers in a sandbox in Austin was to "watch out for your brother". I learned it´s never too late, even after the falls when the road ahead is impossible to follow. Kirk taught me the path of love is always there, even if you don´t see it. He´s the only person I knew that could see Jesus in the heart of a flower. And now the journey ends, and the why and how are a memory, a "Box of Rain".
Such a long long time to be gone
And a short time to be there.

Kirk, my Brother-in-law was a gentle giant. He expressed himself daily with his colorful art, traces of paint all over his apron and shoes. He was a teacher, philosopher, comedian and friend to so many. I´ll never forget Kirk´s smile and the joy he wished others.
