Kreig Zimmerman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 9 to Oct. 10, 2022.
Kreig Kenneth Zimmerman, 49, a resident of the Bed-Stuy neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, passed away due to heart failure on September 3, 2022.

Raised in West Hartford, Connecticut, Kreig possessed a keen intellect and an insatiable quest for knowledge that never waned during his life, helping him excel at whatever interest he targeted.

Voracious in his appetite, Kreig never hid his feelings about what he did and did not enjoy. While drinking a cup of cortado at his favorite neighborhood coffee shops, he willingly engaged in stimulating and thought-provoking conversations with friends and strangers, often ending his talks with a hearty laugh and beaming smile.

He is survived by his twin brother Kurt, older brother Daryl, younger brother Doug, his mother, Patricia, father John, nephew Josh, and niece Rosie.

After graduating from Conard High School in 1991, Kreig attended Wesleyan University.

In college he explored his passion for music and eventually became the musical director of the WESU school radio station. He also became emersed in the local electronic music scene as a promoter and a drum and bass DJ.

His musical interests also aligned perfectly with Kreig's natural ability with computers. He was always ahead of the curve in adopting innovative technologies, including becoming an integral member of one of the first online electronic music rave communities.

After he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Kreig discovered he was a natural fit working at tech companies. Throughout his career, he handled multiple roles as a web developer, programmer, and project manager.

Kreig first moved to New York, living in the Lower East Side for several years. His gregarious personality and penchant for walking quickly made his fit seamless with his adopted home.

Living in the City, Kreig became a diehard Arsenal fan, supporting the English soccer team with gusto. He also enjoyed basketball as a New York Knicks fan and baseball (his favorite sport) with the San Francisco Giants.

Kreig later moved back to Connecticut, where he met and married his wife, Lisa. Together they moved to San Francisco in 2007 and resided in the Richmond District, just steps from the Pacific Ocean, until they returned to Connecticut in 2011. They separated shortly after and eventually divorced.

Back in his native West Hartford, Kreig became the primary caregiver for his mother, Patricia, as she started to deal with the effects of dementia.

In 2017 Kreig was finally able to return to New York City, where he found a home in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood. One of his favorite past times was to go for long walks around Brooklyn and the City, whimsically capturing and sharing the beauty only his eye could see on his Instagram account. Another favorite activity was enjoying the New York City comedy scene.

Kreig's passion for exploration also led him to travel often. Besides living in San Francisco, he also had a particular affinity towards Los Angeles, where he mentioned a never fulfilled desire to work as a writer in the film industry. He also took a long driving journey through most of the Western United States and traveled outside the county to Europe, Japan, China, and Canada.

In his final months, Kreig combined his love for travel and electronic music by attending music festivals in Tulum, Mexico, and Detroit and spending time hosting visiting family in Brooklyn.

As a son, brother, uncle, and friend, Kreig will be dearly missed.
