Kurt Gunther Obituary

Mr. Kurt M. Gunther Jr., 79, of Edinburg, died Monday morning, Feb. 5, 2007, at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.
He was born Jan. 28, 1928, in Patchouge, the son of the late Kurt Sr. and Pearl Overton Gunther.
A graduate of South Kortright Central School, he attended Hartwick College and served in the Army from 1950 to 1952.
Kurt retired as a BCI Senior Investigator with the New York State Police following 21 years of service, mostly in the Catskill region.
Following retirement, he operated "Kurt's Kaboose," a model railroad train shop in Oneonta.
He was also a supervisor for the town of Davenport for eight years.
Kurt was a member of the Northville United Presbyterian Church, the Stamford VFW, the Oneonta Elks and the Edinburg Engineers Model Train Club.
He was married on Nov. 19, 1955, to Betsy Tyrrell, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Martin Gunther (Terry) of Hubert, N.C., Robert Gunther (Lori) of Lexington Park, Md., Wendy Adee (Raymond) of Schenevus and Heidi Saikal of Amsterdam; seven grandchildren, Matthew Gunther, Amber Gunther, Alyssa Gunther, Johnathan Adee, Alexa Saikal, McKenna Gunther and McKenzie Saikal; and several cousins.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the Northville United Presbyterian Church, Northville, where a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Kirianne E. Weaver officiating.
Interment will take place in the spring at Batchellerville Cemetery, Edinburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078.
