MT. GILEAD, Ohio — Kyle Emmet Anders, age 82, of Mt. Gilead, Ohio, formerly of Cedar Bluff, Va., passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010 at his home. Born May 11, 1927 in Tazewell County, Va., he was the son of the late Cleve and Etta Simmons Anders.
He was one of the first employees of S & S Machinery, having worked there for 32 years, retiring in 1987. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice Clifton Anders; daughter, Patsy Anders; foster son, Mark Pruitt; stepson, Alvin Webb; brothers, Grat, Clarence, Colonel, Terry, Elmer, Earl, Roger, Ralph and Eugene Anders; sister, Trula Anders; and two stepgrandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Ressie Short Anders; daughter, Linda Maggard and husband Jim of Cedar Bluff, Va.; foster son, Terry Clifton of Johnson City, Tenn.; stepson, J.B. Webb of Shelby, Ohio; stepdaughters, Rose Hollenbaugh and husband Charlie of N. East, Md., Ann Lewis and husband Dave of Mt. Gilead, Ohio, Helen Mahon and husband Dan of Shelby, Ohio, Sue Webb of Mt. Gilead, Ohio and Sandy Wells and husband Mike of Carrollton, Ga.; brother, James Anders of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sisters, Nora Willard of Mt. Airy, N.C., Ruth Overby and Polly Stack both of Winston-Salem, N.C.; grandchildren, Jeff Maggard and wife Tracy, Tabitha Maggard and fiancé Steve Atkinson and Josh Maggard and fiancée Kristy Adkins; 15 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Kayla Maggard; 27 stepgreat-grandchildren; and several foster children, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2010 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va. with the Reverend Grady McGlothlin and the Reverend Richard Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be Jeff Maggard, Josh Maggard, Colton Webb, Dave Lewis, Dan Mahon, Dallas Short, Jr., Mark Short and Marvin Short. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Tatum, Don Cox, Dennis Simmons, Bill Simmons, Jack Simmons, Ted Horn, Bernard Compton, Clyde Roberts, Larry Roberts, Jim Patton and Rex Shelton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Va.
