As Rev. Sarah Webb wrote to me: "A candle doesn't have to burn long to burn bright." God placed a mighty bright light in our Kyle Joseph Kurey! We miss you and love you, Kyle, and will hold you dear in our hearts forever. Thank you for providing that bright light in our lives. Love, Grandma and Grandpa Joe

Kevin and Kasey- Joe and Carol and family,
We were so shocked to hear about Kyle. I worked with Joe at Bethany for nearly 20 years. We got to feel as if we knew your boys from their proud grandpa. There are no words at a time like this and I can't begin to comprehend how devastated you all must be. Please know that we are thinking about all of you and pray that you find the strength you need to get through this tragedy. Kyle was sure a handsome guy and packed a lot of success into the life cut so short. In this picture he reminds me of his grandma, Carol. I hope you can find some consolation in the fact that so many people care about you. We will keep you in our prayers.

Rushed to the arms of our Lord so soon. You will be missed young man. You were the first boy to tell me in person that you thought my daughter to be beautiful, I will never forget that. Thank you for taking her to her first Homecoming Dance, she went with a great guy!
I will never forget seeing pictures of you passing out soccer balls to less fortunate children in Jamaica, the joy on your face only matched by the children! Thats how I will always remember you ; making others smile.

I never met Kyle. Talking to Kevin on Thursday told me all I needed to know. He was truly loved. What a smile!!! Nineteen years seems short to us. This makes us all cherish what time God has given to us with our loved ones. We have the task to accept God's grace and see our departed again. I pray that the family will find solace as you go through this trial. Continue to celebrate Kyle.

There is nothing that could possibly be said on my account to ease the heart crushing grief that you, the Kurey family, are experiencing right now. Please know that in the only way we can, we grieve with you. We cry with you. We feel bewilderment and anger with you. We mourn him with you.
Kyle was in my fourth and fifth grade afterschool class and the tears keep flowing as I type this, remembering him. I think about a sweet, tenderhearted, silly, kind, obedient, thoughtful boy. Absolutely everyone loved him. He was a light in my class, and I say that with every ounce of sincerity in me. I will never forget him.
Kacey, I particularly think about you tomorrow. I can only imagine this grief must be like an unrelenting storm. Your precious, beautiful, perfect little boy is whole and in the presence of Jesus. He is healed, he is renewed, and he is in the presence of God. When you ache for him in the morning, acknowledge this excruciating pain--but think about where HE is. I could never ever imagine what you're feeling. The only one who could possibly understand is Jesus, who carries our burdens and urges us to cast our cares upon Him. The grief may never relent, but rest in Him. He is holding you. He is holding us. And until you can touch your precious baby boy again, He is holding Kyle.
We love you.

I'll never forget when Kacey brought Kyle's baby book to our parent-teacher conference. She documented how he'd destroyed an entire room with her scrapbook supplies! Mischief level: expert. Kindergarten Kyle was so happy and kind. He used to giggle during nap time and it MADE MY DAYS. His laugh was the contagious kind. I know everyone probably wants to believe their kindergarten teacher treasures a memory of their small adorable selves--but I honestly don't have memories of every child I taught. I DO have Kyle's giggles. I will treasure them. I will hold them in my heart and give my own three mischievous sons an extra squeeze in his memory.
