A service at Alfreton's Wesley Church preceded burial at the town's cemetery of life-long Methodist Mrs Lily Jones (86), formerly of Flowery Leys Lane, Alfreton.
Mrs Jones, who was born at the Nursing Home on Central Road, Alfreton, spent her early life in South Normanton, where she was educated. She later lived in Riddings and Alfreton, before becoming a resident of The Glebe Old People's Home, Church Street, Alfreton, and Sutton Lodge Residential Home, Sutton.
After leaving school, she worked in domestic service at Bradford and Riddings and then became a shop assistant at Bentinck. She then worked as an auxiliary nurse at Shardlow until her marriage.
A life-long Methodist, Mrs Jones attended the Zion Methodist Church at South Normanton as a Sunday school pupil and teacher, and was a member of the ladies' fellowship, Cliff fellowship, Sunday-evening "squash" and Christian Endeavour.
She later became a member of the Nottingham Road, Watchorn and Wesley churches at Alfreton, where she attended the ladies' fellowship and mixed fellowship, and took part in dramatic presentations. She was also a member of the Wesley Guild at Blackwell Methodist Church and was a strong supporter of the Women's Work missionary meetings.
For many years, Mrs Jones was much in demand as a speaker, particularly at women's meetings and special church services. Her other interests included jigsaw puzzles and animals, and she enjoyed walking in her younger days.
Mrs Jones, who died at King's Mill Hospital, Sutton, leaves her brother, Mr Ray Nicholls. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Mr Willis Jones.
The service of thanksgiving at Alfreton Wesley Church, was attended by family, friends and members of local churches.
Donations in lieu of floral tributes amounting to £440 were shared between Alfreton Wesley and Blackwell Methodist Churches.
The service was conducted by the Rev A. Smith, and arrangements were A. Storer and Sons.
