L. William "Argie" Argetsinger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 7, 2022.

Argetsinger, L. William "Argie", from Ballwin Missouri passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by his four children on March 6, 2022. Born in Syracuse, New York on June 10, 1947 to Ann Powers Argetsinger. Argie was raised by his mother along with his beloved sister Ann whom both have predeceased him.

Argie grew up in Ithaca, New York and graduated from Ithaca High School in 1965. He attended and graduated from S.U.N.Y at Brockport in 1969. Upon graduation, Argie went to work at Cornell University in the athletic department where he was a certified athletic trainer for both the football and hockey teams from 1970-1983. During his time at Cornell, he was very active in local sports playing and coaching softball teams during the summers.

In August 1983, Argie was hired as the head athletic trainer at Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, Missouri where he worked until January 1989. He was hired at Anheuser-Busch Companies in January 1989 to oversee, manage and run the fitness and wellness centers for the Anheuser-Busch employees, which he did phenomenally until December 2008.

He is survived by his four children Brad (Megan) Argetsinger, Nicole (Rajan) Knox, Amy (Marshall) Newman, and Beth (Matt) Buck. He will be forever loved and known to his twelve grandchildren (Cole, Nicholas, Quinn, Jack, Caden, Hailey, Layla, Cooper, Tanner, Hudson, Olivia, and William) as “Popi”.

There are simply not enough words in the English language to explain and show what our dad has meant to us. He was an amazing friend to many and enemy to none. His love, laughter and personality were larger than life. All who knew him and crossed paths with him loved him. There is a tremendous void without him here however we know that his memory will continue to live on in the lives of all who were lucky enough to know him.

Services: Memorial visitation at the SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Thursday, 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in his name to the charity of your choice. Friends may sign the family’s on-line guestbook at Schrader.com.

I am heartbroken to hear of Bill’s passing today. I knew him well in the early 70’s, and we’d kept in touch for years off-&-on.
Always loved spending time c Bill, and he will be sorely missed by those who knew & loved him.
Am grateful for what is surely one heck of a reunion c his Mom, Anne; “Uncle Nick”who was very much involved in raising Bill, & his sister, Ann. His family & friends meant the world to him!

I’m sorry I won’t be able to join you for the CELEBRATION of Bill’s Life, but I will surely be with you in spirit!

RIP, dear friend.
Love to all Bill’s family & friends,

MaryLou (Ferris) Forbes

Argie was one of the really good guys! I knew him as a neighbor, trainer for the Cornell athletic department, painter, softball player, family man, partner in a business and most of all as a friend! One never forgets someone like Argie!! Condolences to his family, friends and co-workers.

Argie’s greatness as a man: Regardless of a person’s status, he treated everyone with same level of kindness, interest, professionalism and service. RIP, Bill. I suspect you’re already managing Heaven’s Health Room.

My deepest condolences to the entire family, especially his children! Wow!!!! Argie.....what an amazing man he was to us all during his time at SLU! He was a gentle spirit who always lighten the load for all student/athletes. No one likes getting treatment for any injury, yet with Argie, all was well. The training room became a hangout spot! A stopover just to say hello to Argie! I will never forget that Cornell sweatshirt he would often wear and that smile/laugh of his. Thanks to Argie, I never missed 1 game at SLU in 4 years despite many injuries and he continued to make himself available after we both were no longer at SLU. I can say without question or hesitation that my life and experience at SLU was made better by meeting/ befriending Argie!! He was more than a friend to me, he was family!!! God Bless you all during this time of his transition and thank you for sharing him with us all

Argie was one of the people who made my time at SLU a memorable experience. He always had a smile and kind word no matter what the circumstance. I will never forget his children, especially Amy who was a tremendous athlete and a reflection of her dad. . I am fighting a terrible flu bug now and will not be able to make the wake. Will continue to remember family in my thoughts and prayers. The entire SLU basketball community mourns his loss. Great man, great person, skilled athletic trainer.

So very sorry to hear about Bill. He was a kind, fun friend at Anheuser-Busch. We were lucky to have him running the fitness center - always smiling and ready with a joke. He was a joy to be around.

As a member of the SLU Baseball Team, I had the privilege of knowing Bill Argetsinger. Argie was knowledgeable and very good at his job. He was a great mentor to younger AT's. Bill was kind, not just to me, but everyone. His Irish sense of humor was one of his special gifts.
May he rest in peace.

I, like so many others, have wonderful memories of Billy Bear, as I called him. When Ithaca's womens slowpitch league first started in the early 70's he agreed to coach our team. He made some of the women cry at the first practice and he felt awful. He then adjusted his approach! Billy played a lot of slowpitch softball with my hubby Nitti and he was in our wedding. I will miss him terribly but will never forget his kindness and his very handsome smile. I will also miss those 1am test messages! R.I.P. my forever friend. Love you.

Condolences to the Argetsinger family. Argie was very kind to me, the new young & dumb Athletic Trainer who showed up on the SLU campus in the fall of 1993. He and the likes of Doc Bauman, Hoppy and Jerri Wilson were all very generous with their time to help guide me early in my career, even well after they had left SLU. I often say "Once a Billiken, always a Billiken" and it is a real thing. Argie touched many AT & student-athlete lives in his career, and was a pioneer in the AT settings for life after college athletics. On behalf of the Missouri Athletic Trainers' Association, condolences to the family.

Bill was a mentor to me in tough time in my career. His presence made me believe I was a good AT. He had faith that I would be able to do the job. Argies presence was always Hugh. He was a good mentor, good friend, and good father. May his memory be a blessing. RIP Argie.

I'll always remember the revelry and good times had with Billy playing slowball at Stewart Park and tossing back a few cold ones at the Fall Creek House, as well as the Dugout. An excellent athlete and just a really good guy...RIP Argy...

I have wonderful memories of Argie. I played hockey at Cornell and Argie was the Athletic Trainer for the team. In 1979, I returned to Ithaca to work as an athletic trainer under Head Athletic Trainer Tom McGory. On the staff was Rick LaFrance, Tom LiVigne, Marc Gruder and, of course, Argie. Argie could have been a stand up comic. We would all gather in the Athletic Training room in the fall during football season. We would have about thirty minutes together as a group before the players would arrive for practice. Those are some of my fondest memories as Argie would entertain us with stories and jokes. He is one of the funniest people I have ever met. In the summer, Argie and I were a part of the painting crew for Bill Duthie and every Friday afternoon we would all convene at one of the job sites and consume a few adult beverages. I inherited my love of the New York Yankees from Argie. We have lost one of the good guys. Rest in peace my friend.

Rip Argie, you made my first years, working at Cornell, so much fun and many laughs. I can still hear your story of when you fell on the ice at an ice hockey game! It was funnier each time you told it. My sincere condolences to your family and friends.

He was such a great man and dear friend. His joking and concern for my health and happiness. My life will be less without him. I am moved by all those who hold him as dear as I do. His legacy lives on in 4 beautiful children and their families. Watching them navigate these difficult times I know how proud he would be of them all.

Amy, Nicole, and the whole family, just wanted to let you know that my prayers and thoughts are with you during this time. Bill was a true GENTLEman, who always was so supportive of all of us @MD during Amy’s playing days with the HOOPS. He was always so kind and just a great human being who will be truly loved and missed by many, and surely by his children and grandchildren. Everlasting PEACE to Bill, and to the family.

Unfortunately I will not be able to make the visitation or service, but I will make a donation to MD, as requested by the family.
