Lacy Williams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 5, 2024.
Shreveport - Lacy Holmes Wiliams, M.D. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Born in Dallas, Texas on November 27, 1938, he was raised in Longview, Texas by his loving parents John (Jack) Tremper Williams and Thelma Holmes Williams along with his older brother Jack. As a young teenager, Lacy was involved in a motorcycle accident resulting in several weeks of recovery in the hospital leading to his interest in becoming a doctor. After graduating from Longview High School, he attended the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Following completion of his undergrad studies, he was accepted to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston where he earned his medical degree with honors and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. After medical school, he spent a year interning at Herman Hospital in Houston then returned to Galveston for his residency in Radiology. He entered the Public Health service and served for two years in Baltimore, Maryland during the Vietnam War.

Lacy met the love of his life Edie Broyles at Longview High School, and they married in June of 1960. In 1967, they moved their family to Shreveport, Louisiana where he joined the radiology practice at Schumpert Hospital. During his medical career, Lacy served as chief of Radiology at Schumpert, was the President of the Radiology Society, and was a Fellow of the American College of Radiology.

While he enjoyed practicing medicine, he also followed in the family business of oil and gas, investing in many deals over the years. In 1990, following the graduation of his son Allen from college, they began Will-Drill Resources, Inc in Shreveport. In 1998, Lacy retired from practicing medicine. He and Edie promptly moved back to Texas and spent many happy years at Lake Cherokee.

Lacy was very involved in and extremely generous to his community. He served as Fundraising Chair for the Sutton Children's Hospital campaign at Schumpert Hospital and for those efforts received the Louisiana State Medical Society Community Service Award. He was recognized as a Junior Achievement Laureate and was selected by The Cotillion Club of Shreveport as King of Cotillion Rex LVI.

Lacy will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He had a wonderful ability to pick up the phone and talk to anyone. He delighted in bass fishing with friends and family at the family ranch in Jonesville, Texas and loved to hunt doves and quail in South Texas. He showed immense curiosity in many topics, reading several newspapers and magazines daily.

In the last few years, he was especially proud of sponsoring the LSU-S bass fishing team. He followed their tournaments and results all over the country and hosted the team every year for a fishing tournament.

Lacy is survived by his wife of 64 years, Edie Broyles Williams, and their children and families: Lacy Williams and his wife Michelle, Evelyn Williams, Allen Williams and his wife Amy, and Claire Williams. His grandchildren, Megan Whittle and her husband Grant and their children, Brooks and Blake, Trace Williams and his wife Laine and their children, Allie and Parker, Kathryn Williams, Jack Williams, Chandler Williams, Benson Williams, and Tremper Williams. He is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Jack Williams.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 11th at St. Mark's Cathedral in Shreveport, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice or to the LSUS Foundation, 1 University Place, Shreveport, LA 71115.
