I was a childhood friend of LaRetas in Portland, OR. She moved into the neighborood when we were in the 4th grade and we and another girl, Ardyth, became best of friends. LaReta lived with her grandmother and an aunt and uncle who were still single then. Her uncle had a car with a rumble seat and it was a real treat to get to ride in it. Her aunt was lovely with and we got a glimpse of the dating world through them.
LaReta always seemed more mature than Ardyth and I. We took art lessons together but she was really good at it. Also, she could design clothes. She would dream up a look she wanted, cut out the pattern on newspaper and then we would all make the dress. It was a fun time.
Once we got into high school our interests changed and we had different friends. In the summer before our sophomore year she decided to move to Montana and live with her father. We pretty much lost touch after that. She seemed to be destined for homemaking and children. LaReta came to the 20th high school reunion in Portland but after that I did not hear from her. Then two years ago our highschool was having a 60th reunion and somehow I found her online. She did not come to the reunion but I shared pictures I took and comments from her long ago friends who had so many fond memories of her. I had no idea she was living in Seattle as I was now too and we did get together on one occasion. I'm sorry there hadn't been more time. LaReta was truly a lovely person and I am so sorry for your great loss.

Grandma Lore will be missed. She had such a kind and loving spirit, and so many lessons she gave me will be with me for a lifetime.
