Larry Borel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 20, 2024.
Larry Allen Borel, 75 of Flynn, Texas, passed away at home on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at 9 p.m. with his wife Janice by his side. He was born April 21, 1948, to Louis and Jane Borel. Larry grew up in Groves, Texas. He graduated from Port Neches – Groves High School in 1967.

Larry received his draft notice the week he graduated high school and enlisted in the army. He was stationed at Fort Polk for Basic Training then went to AIT (Advanced Individual Training) then on to Vietnam. Larry was engaged to marry Janice so he took his R&R to Honolulu, Hawaii and sent her a letter asking her to meet him if she wanted to get married, if not he would send her a postcard. They married on April 8, 1968.

Larry worked at US Steel for 20 years and upon the closing of the mill he went on to become an operator at Chevron Phillips in Pasadena where he retired on May 4, 2012. Once retired, Larry built his dream shop where he spent 10-12 hrs. a day doing what he loved, from working on his tractors, farm equipment, or clearing the land. The only time he would stop was to help his neighbors in need. Larry was a funny, kind, generous, and incredibly hard-working man. He would help anyone in need if he could. Larry was one of the hardest working men that i have ever known. I will never forget the time that Ryan crawled into his old Ford truck and tried to start it. The truck was in gear and Ryan ran the truck into the garage.

When I saw Larry he always had some family member with him. HE WAS REALLY A FAMILY MAN

Larry was so much fun to be around. You could be yourself and could sit and talk for hours and laugh and be comfortable. When you went to visit you absolutely HAD TO GO TO HIS SHOP! You might learn a few things because of all the items he had in it. He was a jokester but you knew when he serious. Just an all-around fine man. I will miss him and will always remember the last time I spent visiting with him. I will count my memories as blessings each time I have one. He was always a blessing.
