Lawrence "Larry" Cliff Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 7, 2025.
Larry Cliff, 67, was born in Princeton, New Jersey, on December 16, 1958. He was the first-born son to parents Norman and Rosemary Cliff. He passed away unexpectedly on July 31, 2025, in Huntington Beach, California.

Larry was introduced to the "Oilpatch" while working towards his Geology degree at USC. He worked summers for Gearhart Industries, a global technology company that provided well logging and perforating services to both domestic and international customers. Larry continued to work for Gearhart until 1985 when he began working for Production Logging Services (PLS), a career that he held for the rest of his life.

After only a few years at PLS, Larry rose to the position of Senior Field Engineer. At that time, he was responsible for the operation of the 'Logging Unit' on location. With a steady hand and a sharp focus, Larry was at the top of his game, guiding electronic instruments into high pressure oil and gas wells and obtaining vital geophysical measurements, earning the trust and respect of his clients.

In 2014, Larry became the Operations Manager of the Long Beach location for PLS, overseeing not only Field Operations, but the day-to-day management as well. He took great pride in his work and was always professional in his relationships with his colleagues, clients and co-workers. As a testament to his knowledge and understanding of his profession, the California State Regulatory agency that oversees oil well environmental compliance, would often send their new hires to train with Larry.

Dozens of people worked with and for Larry at PLS, and all admired his strong work ethic, his open-minded acceptance of others, and the professionalism he consistently brought to work each and every day.

Larry's commitment to his work was matched only by his character. He was known for his integrity, generosity, and quiet but steadfast presence. A man of few words, Larry shined through his actions, whether supporting his colleagues, family, or friends. His legacy will be remembered for the unwavering support and loyalty he offered to those around him, never seeking recognition but always providing it when needed.

Larry was a devoted husband, supportive father, loving grandfather, and an amazing friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by Jo, his loving wife of 20 years, brothers, Roger and his wife Renee, Paul and his wife Cheryl, son, Ryan and his wife Megan, daughter, Shannon Aeschbury and her husband Alex and their 3 children, Erastus, Olive and Margot, stepchildren, Kelly and Tyler Nedderman and Tyler's son, Damien.

Larry will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
