Larry Godfrey Obituary
Larry Godfrey, the 1965 NCAA National Champion hurdler and Aztec Hall of Fame Inductee, died on February 15th in an accident while skiing at Mt. Bachelor in Bend, Oregon. He was 79 years old.
Larry was an avid outdoors man, having backpacked hundreds of miles in the High Sierra-Nevada wilderness. He was an expert skier and season pass holder at Mt. Bachelor, a member of several golf clubs, an expert fly fisherman, and an amazing gardener. He loved reading, spending time with his many friends, and, of course, the Chargers!
After a career teaching and coaching at Monte Vista High School, where his cross-country teams won several CIF championships, he retired to Bend in 2004, realizing his lifetime dream of living, skiing, golfing, hiking and biking in the mountains.
Larry is survived by his daughter, Katie, grandchildren, Trevor and Summer, daughter, Julia, son-in-law, Matthew, his sister, Mary Carol, and brother, Jim.
A Celebration of Larry's Life will be held on April 15th at 2:00 pm
Lakeside Community Center, 9841 Vine Street, Lakeside, Ca 92040

Hi Jim and Mary Carol. I'm so sorry for your loss. Don't know if you remember me. Larry and I used to fish together all the time. He And Skip Cook were with me when I caught my record bass.
We played together on the Clairemont Hi Football team also.
He was a great friend, and will be missed very much.

I´m deeply sorry about the passing of Larry. I played golf with him for 6 years at Eagle Crest. I went to a local tap house overlooking the Deschutes River that he and I went to a lot and made a toast to someone I considered a friend.

What a great guy who was my younger brother’s track coach in the 1970’s
He introduced me to scuba diving in 1972. He made the best abalone too. Such a gentleman. So glad he enjoyed the outdoors. Blessings and condolences to his family

I remember Larry from Clairemont High School. We were on the track team. He was an outstanding quarter miler and friend. Rest in peace, Larry.

My condolences go out to Larry Godfrey´s family. He was my Cross Country coach between 1970 and 1973. I was part of an exceptional group of runners. Coach Godfrey took over an already impressive Monte Vista High Cross-Country winning tradition, and kept it going. Nothing but great memories from those years, and nothing but respect for Coach Godfrey.
