LARRY LEE GUISINGER
Menlo
Larry Lee Guisinger, 59 of Menlo passed away May 8, 2009 , at is home after a length battle with kidney cancer. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2009, at the Johnson Family Funeral Home - Stuart; burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Menlo. Visitation will be from 6to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Menlo or Stuart Rescue Units.
Larry was born in Stuart, Iowa on December 31, 1949, to Ross and Gladys Guisinger and he was the oldest of their seven children. Larry enjoyed growing up in the Howe area and attended the Greenfield schools until high school. He learned much from his parents on the farm and loved being outdoors. His mechanical abilities started early. He graduated from Menlo High School in 1968 and on July 20 of that year he married Shirley Miller. Together thy have two children - Julie Kay (Cory) Kirkpatrick and Ryan Lee (Jenny) Guisinger. They've also been blessed with three grandchildren Payton Hill, Darin Kirkpatrick, and Riley Guisinger.
During his working career, Larry was employed at Brown Garage Motor Operations and later started his own business at that location in downtown Des Moines, Larry's Performance Shop. He also worked at Holmes Oldsmobile ad then Premier Auto in Stuart where he enjoyed working with his brother and son for six years. All these years in the automotive repair business gave him many opportunities for the personal satisfaction of helping and meeting many people. By 1999, he was epcialy proud to be employed at Karl Chevrolet. He started there as shop foreman, later becoming Commercial Service Manager and was still working just prior to his sudden death. Although he was a hard worker his first love was his family. His pastime spent was camping and fishing with family, vacation trips, and just ordinary family events were his favorite things.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of forty years, Shirley; their children and grandchildren; his parents; brothers Gary (Rita), Rick (Sally), David (Mary Ann); sisters Linda (Leonard) Sudbock, Kim (Marvin) Christensen; and Donette (Mrs. Dan Guisinger); sister-in-law Janet (Scott) Hartman; and other family, friends, and co-workers.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and brother, Dan.
