I miss his sparkling eyes and deep chuckle. I miss seeing him walking up and down Red Oak Way. I am glad however to see his beautiful home occupied by some very friendly folks! They are lovingly caring for the home the way Larry and Marti used to.

Still trying to process this tragic news. Larry was one of my very closest friends since 1959, played football together for three years, and have remained close ever since. We just traveled together to Colorado several months ago and had an opportunity to recount many wonderful experiences. I know he positively affected many lives through his teaching and coaching. He loved it!! We have lost a great one. My sincerest sympathy and best wishes to Larry and Amy and prayers for Jane's recovery.

What a loss! I remember teaching with Larry at Bernards High School and what an impression he made on the young teachers.
Rest in Peace, Larry.

My Freshman Football Coach in his first year at Manville. I liked him so much, he talked me, and numerous others, to go out for wrestling, and golf, something I had never before envisioned. We had four great years together on all three teams! When my Father died suddenly my senior year, he went out of his way to make sure I was doing ok.

Coach Helwig called me out of a Basking Ridge Football game, in 1969, just after I scored a TD. He had a good chuckle at my girlfriend (now wife) wearing proudly my prior year game Jersey on the sidelines. She had a coat over it until the TD, he said! He had a good, kind, knowing laugh. We considered He and Marti friends.

My wife Bernie and I enjoyed knowing Coach and Marti. We tried to exchange holiday greetings all these years, usually including notes on our families. Very sad when Marti passed. Very sad Coach is now gone. Larry Helwig was a really good Coach, Teacher, Mentor, Friend, and Man.

We saw him last at a reunion last Fall. He looked great. His warm smile was most welcoming, and. becoming!

Our sympathies to all who were close to him; our recognition that so many will have many, many wonderful fond memories of Coach Helwig.

Coach Helwig was a wonderful, kind man with a terrific sense of humor. Always smiling, he warmed the halls of SWMHS back in 1977. Rest in Peace Coach.

Kathy and I are devastated by the loss a true friend and great person. So many memories over the years- ESSC Football, ESU Homecomings, golf, Lake Ontario fishing trip, and Florida visit. We will miss Larry's stories, good humor, laugh, and positive outlook on life. He was so proud of his family. May your wonderful memories of him bring you comfort in your times of sorrow.

Rest in peace our friend

Looking out across the street will NEVER BE the same anymore without seeing Larry wave back to us. Of course, that wave would usually turn into walking across to our driveway and engaging in a lively conversation from soup (literally!) to nuts! How he loved to get on his lawn tractor and cut his grass with his big brimmed hat! A true Friend and Wonderful Neighbor for over 40 years! The loss of Marti is still heartbreaking enough, but now losing Larry so suddenly, is extremely sorrowful! Our sincere, deepest, and heartfelt sympathy to Larry Jr., Amy, and Larry's entire family. We were so sorry to hear of Larry's passing. We enjoyed many car shows together. He and Marti used to help drive cars for us. I live on the same street and would see him all the time in the yard - smiling and waving! I will miss seeing him.
Our deepest condolences to the family. Rest in Peace Larry.

I am saddened by the events that happened last weekend. Larry was always a friend to me at ESSC and on the football team. Larry was the punter and I was the center so we did spend al lot of time together on the football field. My memory of Larry was to see him always with a smile on his face and a positive attitude. I moved to Kentucky right after graduation and we hadn't seen each other until about 4 years ago. I will miss him at college events that I might get to in years to come. Lately I noticed he is sporting a Colonel Sanders goatee. He sure would have made a good one. He will be missed.
