Larry Lederman

Larry you were a good dude. Garden State Park was such a treasure and having you made our day. Time goes so fast brother. I know youre at peace. If we can be half the person you were, life would be in great hands. When I get up there, give a call for me would ya? Say hi to my pops because I know hes at the racetrack, if there is one up there.

I just belatedly learned of Larry's death. I met him in about 2016, when my students at Children's Workshop School in Manhattan (formerly P.S. 61) found something belong to Larry's brother Alan under a closet floorboard. After I reached out to Alan, he put me in touch with Larry, who came to visit my students and tell them about life in our neighborhood in the 1960s. They were mesmerized by his big and friendly personality and voice. He also shared with them that it was the 6th anniversary of his cancer diagnosis and encouraged them always to make the most of life. Larry's generous visit to our class was a really wonderful and special experience and I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

I met Larry at the Garden State Park press box in 1987, and listened to many of his calls, as he was the go-to fill-in announcer in the mid-Atlantic. He was definitely one of a kind, a true racetracker, and will be sorely missed.

I used to own a claiming horse at Feeehold and bumped into Larry on the elevator. We got talking and he invited my wife and I up the booth and watched him call a races. He was just a nice guy and he made a great impression on us for his kindness and hospitality.

Larry was a great person and most of all a great friend. The first time I ever spoke with Larry he was calling the races at Atlantic City. My Friend Howie and I enjoyed his race calls. When my friend Howie had a Kidney transplant I wrote a letter to Larry explaining that we were fans and if he could give him a shout out in a race call. He did better than that. He invited us down to the track and we had a great time. We became friends after that.
We would go to Garden State Park and hang out at Freehold as well. I remember the trips up to Foxboro and spending the weekend there.
The part I will always remember is the poker games at my house. We would have a blast playing and it was a social game.
He would bring his daughter Leslie and she would go swimming with my 2 kids and it was great. Time really goes by so fast. Now everyone from that game is gone except for our friend Big John and myself. I just wish we could turn the clock back and appreciate all the great times were had.

Larry truly had the biggest heart ever !! He gave to all , never wanting or receiving back. I have been Larry´s friend and hygienist for over 25 years. His sense of humor was infectious , his jokes , his impersonations incredible, especially Jackie Mason ! I don´t know how I ever actually cleaned his teeth because we laughed and talked so much. We shared meals at Texas Roadhouse and just life conversations. His strength , courage and kindness immeasurable .
He will be deeply missed , rest in peace my friend !

Larry was a true gentleman-literally!He was a wonderful person friend confidante and comedian throughout the years .May our friend Larry rest in sweetest eternal peace and make sure to eat a ton of pancakes up there!!!!njoyce and nick
We will miss you greatly

Larry and I took a day trip to Monticello for the races and had dinner in the casino with TA Howard Oil. He showed me the house he grew up in and we had an awesome time. He also announced my first win as a driver with amazing quips and gave me my nickname that has lasted 25 years. RIP my friend..Kelly Putaski
