Larry Lucchino was a baseball executive whose tenures as president of the Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, and San Diego Padres helped create two new "retro" stadiums and turned the Red Sox into a modern dynasty.
We invite you to share condolences for Larry Lucchino in our Guest Book.

My nephew, who is now a hitting coach with the Giants, was married at Fenway Park. After the ceremony, his Dad had arranged to have Larry meet the newly Weds; and present my nephew and his Dad with replica world series rings. Larry shook hands with all present, including myself. A very special moment for me.

I met Larry in 1995 when John Moores bought the Padres, and Larry would be the CEO. After over a dozen interviews with different Padres managers, department managers and VPs, I landed an interview with Bill Adams, longtime VP. After a nice chat and interview with Mr. Adams, he reached under his desk, pressed a button and the door flew open. He asked me to wait while he went to give Larry the lowdown on our completed interview. After a suitable wait, Larry ushered me in to his office. I thought the interview went really well, since Larry was adamant about providing excellent service to Padres fans, and I was pretty thrilled at the prospect of working for someone who valued great service above all else. At the end of the interview, Larry reached under his desk, pushed a button...and nothing happened. He kept trying, and I must admit it was getting a tad bit awkward. After about 5 very long minutes, the door flew open. Not only did I get a chance to leave his office, I got the job.
The Padres years I spent under the leadership of Larry were some of the most wonderful and memorable of my life: the team trips to San Francisco, the big A, Phoenix, Hawaii, and of course, the two 1998 World Series games at Yankee Stadium. Those sort of great experiences came to a halt after Larry's departure. I feel like I was at the Padres for their heyday. Larry and I were not close, but I think we respected each other from afar, and that worked for me. As an early in life Red Sox fan, I was delighted with his ability to FINALLY get the World Series pennant for Boston.
I am sorry to hear that Larry has passed on from our planet.
Condolences to his wife, family and others who were close to him.

I met Larry while he played basketball at Princeton on a team that also included Bill Bradley et al. We dated for several years and I still treasure a scrapbook/journal I kept during the time we spent together. He was a true prince among men...

So so sorry for your loss, the loss for all members of the extended Lucchino family, including his stepchildren Blair and Davis. Larry and I met at Yale Law School over fifty years ago; he was a dear dear friend through parties, meals, even chaotic passover ceremonies , weddings, movies, pizza, political discussions, and of course, the Red Sox, which my Yale classes and of course my family, regularly attended. I visited him shortly before he passed, my heart breaking. My deepest condolences.

We are all very sorry to hear of Larry's passing. Living next door to dear Rose for ten years was a delight for me and my boys. Larry and the entire family were very sweet to us and it was always fun when the family got together at Rose's. I hope there is some comfort in knowing that Rose is now holding her baby again.
With heartfelt sympathy and love,
Judy, Dan, and Matt

Stacy and the Lucchino family, please accept the condolences of the Karabinos family of Pittsburgh. We all loved Larry and appreciate his benevolent kindness and support for almost 7 decades. We, like so many others in the world whose lives he had touched, feel some of your pain - some of your grief. Larry was a very special man, a man whose signature in red brick, and mortar, iron fences and gingko trees outlining friendly park-like settings is spread coast to coast. But more than substance his touching concern remains deeply in our hearts. Few of our generation will think or speak of Pittsburgh, Baltimore, San Diego or Boston and not think of Larry in the same breathe. As our Mass Liturgy states: "... Larry's life has not ended, merely changed ..." and as we were then, we will be together again in the warm embrace of our Heavenly Father. Chaplain Bill.

In February of 2003, my 2 sons and I went to Fenway Park to watch the Spring training send off parade for the equipment being sent to Florida. My son Shamus was in his wheelchair, Larry came over and started talking with him. My other son Justin chimed in the conversation for the duration of the event. He was just a regular down to earth man, he even took us in the locker room. He asked us where we were from and was excited to hear we were from Pennsylvania since he was a native. As the event concluded he handed his business card and advised us if we ever wanted to attend a Red Sox anywhere to just call him and he would have the traveling secretary Jack McCormick to make sure that the tickets would be at the ticket office. He was truly a MAN OF HIS WORD on countless occasions who never forgot his roots!! May his Spirit be one of perpetual magnitude and live on forever through out the world of baseball . Thank you Larry for the memories etched in our mind's forever.

Rest in Peace Larry Lucchino!!
Larry was so good to our family when we met him at a FOXWOODS RED SOX weekend in 2015.. when he heard that my daughter Charlie was going to her first Red Sox game that April. He gave me his email address and told me to please let him know where we were sitting.
I thought maybe he was going to put something up on the board... But nope! Halfway through the game a young man came up to me asked if I was Joann Russell... And said that Larry requested for Charlie, I and her dad to join him in his private suite box... it was the BEST DAY EVER!!! He had so much EXCITEMENT for the game!!
We Enjoyed talking with him and spending time with him both those days!!
RIP Larry!! we have never met anyone who was more excited about the Red Sox then You!!!!
