Covington - Larry Charles Mashburn

April 16, 1947 - October 13, 2025

Larry Charles Mashburn, 78, of Covington, GA, passed away October 13, 2025. Born in Athens, Georgia on April 16, 1947, he was the son of the late Nora Mozelle and Horace Clayton Mashburn.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marietta Koch Mashburn, his brother Richard Mashburn, sister-in-law Barbara Mashburn, and his brother-in-law Frank Landrum.

Larry is survived by his sister Glenda Key, brother-in law Bill Key, sister, Reba Landrum, and his brother and devoted caretaker, Dale Mashburn. He is also survived by his children James Slacum; Jeff (Tammy) Slacum; Jennifer (Ronnie) Brooks; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry grew up in Athens, Georgia. After graduation from Athens High School in 1965, he moved to Nashville, where he trained as a diesel mechanic. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served in the Navy Seabees (Construction Battalion) as a diesel engine mechanic, while completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. His time in the service reflected his strong work ethic, adaptability, and dedication to his country.

After returning home, Larry worked alongside Bill Lindler and John Nolton to create United Steel Storage, Inc., a premier warehouse equipment and storage company. Larry developed a unique computer program for the company, creating efficiencies for the business that were extremely innovative for his time. His colleagues and partners respected him as a detail-oriented, hard-working, no-nonsense businessman who led with both intelligence and integrity.

Larry's love of motorcycles evolved throughout his life, progressing from dirt bikes to flat-track racing to Harley choppers to Goldwings. He and his brothers enjoyed riding together on the open road. Whatever his other occupations were, he was always happy spending time as a motorcycle mechanic to family and friends. He and his wife, Marietta, were even married at a motorcycle camp! They shared many happy years before her passing, sharing a deep bond and an adventurous spirit that defined much of Larry's life.

Larry will be remembered for his contagious laugh, his mischievous sense of humor, the easy way he brought joy to those around him, and his unwavering love of & loyalty to family and friends. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
