Watched and played against Gator Rivers when he was at Missouri Western and on his team was the Brown brothers. He was the ultimate athlete and did use some of his dribbling and ball handling skills. I just found out about his passing and wanted to express my gratitude for his attitude when I was a youngster in college.
Prayers, best wishes, love, and prayers to all his fans, relative, families, and all he touched.

I met Larry while we both attended Moberly Area Junior College at Moberly, Missouri in 1969. I was first struck by his amazing smile. While I never became closely acquainted with Larry, I never forgot a brief kiss we shared, just being silly, while riding to a Columbia party in a car full of kids. He was a really nice guy. I'm so sorry to learn of his death. RIP "Gator".

Gator was one of my very best friends in life. We talked at least 2 to 3 times a week. He loved young people with a passion. We he got involved in politics we were much closer friends. He hated identity politics with all of his fiber. He saw everyone for who they were. He sent me a text a few days before he passed away and said he was ready when the Lord was ready for him. I loved this man we have lost a great treasure. I love you my brother. In Christ,

Larry Gator Rivers, you were the best basketball player I ever knew. When you made the Globetrotters, I was not surprised. You earned it. My dad loved you dearly. He talked about working out with you at the Frank Callen Boys Club in Savannah.
You teased me about becoming a Doctor of Education, but you also chuckled when I reminded you that I always was a schoolwork nerd.
When you get to heaven, I know God will have a basketball court where you and daddy Ben can play ball.
Take care and know that you will be missed by the Beach High class of 1969.
