Larry Rushton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 9, 2024.
Larry Millard Rushton, age 74 passed away peacefully in his sleep in Nampa Idaho on March 7, 2024, succumbing to cancer. He was born on January 29, 1950 in Van Nuys, California to Maeser and Vivian Rushton. The family moved to Kaysville, Utah where he graduated from Davis High School in 1968, and later graduated from Brigham Young University. Larry had a long career with Sysco Food Service where he excelled at building successful sales territories across Utah, Idaho, and Washington. His customers always came first, he was their champion and he was fiercely competitive winning numerous sales awards including salesman of the year. Larry's wit and dry sense of humor were legendary, he especially enjoyed dropping a quip on someone new in a flawless deadpan delivery and watching them squirm until he finally broke into his charming smile as they realized his good-natured fun. Larry enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles the more difficult the better, golfing on a good day, the ocean on any day and he especially loved being a trainer of several Labrador retrievers for Guide Dogs for the Blind. Lithia, Molly, and Madison were his beloved puppy pals.

Larry's family meant everything to him. He was a proud husband, father, stepfather, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his son Joel Rushton, whom he was proud of as a Captain for the Salt Lake City Fire Department and Joel's wife Alissa with his children Mia, Liam, and Luka. Larry was a loving husband to MaryAnne Preece for 33 years and her children Billy Bjorklund & partner Dr. Wendy Weeks, Bob Bjorklund & wife Victoria, Michael Preece & wife Melanie, and Ron Preece & wife Jackie. Larry adored his grandchildren Samantha Wurtz & husband Adam, Thad Preece with their loving mom Katie Killeen, Ericah Bjorklund, Collin Bjorklund, Danielle Wells & husband Javier with Larry's great-grandchildren Remington and Beckett. He enjoyed many days at the ocean with Sister and Brother-in-Law Kathy Rose & Dana Totten and the nieces and nephews Andrew Totten, Melissa Brown, and Justin Totten. He is also survived by his brother Mark & Sister-in-Law Carma Rushton with their children Rhett Rushton & Emi Taylor of Kaysville, Utah.
