Larry Young Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 2, 2025.
Larry Eugene Young, 55, passed away on July 1, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Born on February 16, 1970, in the same city he called home throughout his life.

A proud graduate of Istrouma High School's Class of 1988, Larry went on to attend Southern University, where he began cultivating the skills and vision that would define his professional life. With a keen eye for design and an unwavering commitment to excellence, Larry built a distinguished career as an award-winning kitchen designer. His work at Home Depot and Lowe's earned him the admiration of colleagues and clients alike. Whether transforming a space or mentoring a coworker, Larry brought passion and precision to every project he touched.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Larry was known for his vibrant spirit and generous heart. He was an avid sports fan who cheered passionately for the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans, and LSU Tigers. Game days were often filled with excitement and camaraderie as he shared his love of sports with those around him.

He leaves behind a devoted family who cherished him dearly: siblings Paula Young; Deidre Brown (Robert); Monique Dixon; Stacey Selvage; and David Alexander. His presence will be especially missed by his nieces and nephews- including Darien Northern; Erick (Gabrielle); Corey; and Sean Northern- a special great niece, Laila Northern and numerous other great-nieces and great-nephews who brought joy to his life and affectionately called him "Uncle". A host of other relatives and friends also mourn the loss of Larry, who brought light into their lives through laughter, kindness, and enduring friendship.

Larry was the son of the late Dale Y. Givens and Larry E. Selvage. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Fredda B. Young, and his paternal grandparents, Prince and Elizabeth Selvage.

Larry's legacy is one of creativity expressed through design, loyalty shown through fandom, and love shared freely with family and friends. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 12 at 3 pm, with visitation from 1-3 pm at Wilson-Wooddale Funeral Home 1553 Wooddale Blvd., Baton Rouge, La. 70806.

I want to send my deepest condolences to Mr. Larry’s family. In the short time, it was truly a blessing to care for him. He had such a gentle spirit and even on his tough days, you could still feel his strength. His family’s love and kindness were always present and it meant so much to see how much he was cared for. I hope his memory brings his family peace and comfort in this difficult time.
