Laura Jean Coglon

Laura Jean Coglon (nee Sawdon) November 18, 1926 - June 27, 2017 It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to our dear Mom and Grandma (Nana). Laura Jean Coglon passed away peacefully at Canterbury Court on June 27 at the age of 90. Jean was born in Three Hills, Alberta, and attended the University of Alberta, graduating with a degree in nursing in 1951. At university, she met Dr. Russell (Russ) Coglon, and they married in 1954. For the next four decades (before Russ's passing in 1993), they shared a wonderful partnership, raising three children in Edmonton, making many friends and traveling the world, including favorite trips to Ireland, Italy and Turkey. While raising her family, she found artistic outlets in pottery, weaving and watercolor painting. Whether through her artwork or trips into the countryside with Russ, she pursued a deep love of nature - a love she passed on to her family. Certainly, this caring, generous woman made the world better for all who knew her. She will be forever remembered by her sons David (Lorna) and Richard (Shirley) and her daughter Margot (Laurier), and grandchildren Dernyn (Melanie), Garnet (Kristin), Brianne (Kevin), Caden, Jason (Pam), Noelle (James) and Graeme (Serena). In lieu of flowers, you may choose to make a donation to Nature Conservancy of Canada or Doctors Without Borders. An open tea in memory of Jean will be held at Canterbury Court (8403 - 142 Street, Edmonton) on Wednesday, July 5 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm (drop-in). A family celebration of Jean's life will be held at a later date.
