Laura L. Coppens

Estero, FL - Laura L. Coppens, age 66, of Estero, FL, and formerly of Ann Arbor, MI, died at her home on the morning of September 3, 2024. She was born on September 21, 1957, in Lansing, MI.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Patrick J. Coppens of Estero, FL; two sons, Andrew D. Coppens (Christina) of Durham, NH, and Bradley J. Coppens (Brett) of Manhasset, NY; one daughter, Kristin M. Johnston (Justin) of West Olive, MI, and three grandchildren, Campbell Coppens, Luke Coppens, and Jase Johnston. She loved her children and grandchildren immensely. Laura was a daughter of David W. and Carol M. (Romano) Clark. She is also survived by her two brothers, Lee Clark and Michael Clark, and her sister, Raejean June. As a child, Laura had a very strong relationship with her grandparents, Marian and Samuel "PawPaw" Romano.

Laura attended Lansing Eastern High School and Lansing Community College. Professionally, she spent many years working at Michigan National Bank and later Williams Sonoma. Reflecting her concern for and deep commitment to others, Laura volunteered for many years at the Safe House Center of Ann Arbor, MI, helping domestic violence survivors.

Patrick and Laura met at the Tastee-Freez in Lansing, MI, where they both worked as adolescents. They spent many enjoyable years in Lansing and then later in Ann Arbor, raising their family before retiring and moving to Florida. Everywhere she lived, Laura was well known for her outgoing and vivacious personality, wit, generosity, and charm. She was a friend to many, especially her dear girlfriends in Ann Arbor. Laura took an interest in people from all walks of life - the community members most often ignored or overlooked were among those to whom she extended the most concern and compassion.

Memorial services for Laura will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the mausoleum of St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery: 2520 W. Willow, Lansing, MI 48917. A Celebration of Life gathering will follow at One North Lansing: 5001 W Saginaw Hwy, Lansing, MI 48917.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Safe House Center of Ann Arbor, MI, where Laura was a long-time advocate and volunteer (see https://www.safehousecenter.org/donate/).
