Kendall C. Shaffer Jr.

Kendall C. Shaffer Jr., of Salinas, passed away peacefully in his sleep Tuesday, April 8, 2014, surrounded by his family and his beloved dog "Freddy". He was 69 years old.

Kendall was born in Oakland, to Kendall C. Shaffer Sr. and Marjorie (Cockcroft) Shaffer. He has one younger brother. During his childhood, Kendall had numerous dogs and a pet chimpanzee. He grew up in Palm Springs before moving to Salinas.

He is survived by his brother, Richard (Camilla) Shaffer of Felton; his three children, Anastacia "Staci" Consiglio (Mike) of Pacific Grove, Rebecca "Becki" Conner (Pat) of Lathrop and Kendall C. "K.C." Shaffer III (Corey) of Morgan Hill; his seven grandchildren, Michael, Lillian and Rachel Consiglio, Adam and Caitlin Dios, and Robert Clayon and Cody Shaffer; as well as his nephews and niece, Christopher (Amory), Alexander "Sasha", and Marissa Shaffer.

For the last 14 years, he was married to the love of his life, Marie and with that marriage, inherited three step-children, Deborah Cruz (Sam) of Salinas, Jim Brown (Kelli) of Fresno, and Deana Brower (Jayson) of Spokane, WA, and four more grandchildren, Matthew & Garrett Brown and Emily & Joshua Brower.

Kendall was a member of the Salinas Jaycees, SCRAMP of Laguna Seca, the SVMH Mended Hearts Program, and most recently, The Salinas Valley Art Association.

He was an avid reader and an accomplished painter. He participated in numerous local art shows and is honored to have his artwork hanging in the National Steinbeck Museum.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Kendall's honor to either the SVMH Mended Hearts or to the VNA Hospice Association.
