For You, Ma
On this journey's path I tread,
Yearning for what lies ahead,
To Idaho, where my heart yearns to be,
To lay you to rest, my dear Ma, Laurel Ann, forever free.
Ma, known to others as Laurie, a name they all knew,
But in my heart, it's always been Ma-forever true.
I'm lost in Colorado, a traveler delayed,
Struggling through silence, where no farewells were made.
No whisper from kin told me the day or the hour,
When you took your leave, like a wilted flower.
Yet, here I am, with resolve like no other,
To gather your ashes from father and brother.
Metolious River, where our stories entwine,
Your summer realm of peace, now becomes divine.
With whispers of trout, fed by crystal clear springs,
We giggled and dreamed, embracing life's beautiful things.
Your childhood was shadowed by louder tones,
Parents' battles echoing through memories' stones.
Yet you taught me laughter, amidst the chaos and strife,
To see beauty, even in a tumultuous life.
To the Oregon coast, where waves echo my calls,
From Astoria's whispers to Newport's grand halls.
Your joy found in beaches where we romped wild and free,
These sands, my sanctuary, a reflection of thee.
Bound by past, both good and the bad,
You, my eternal optimist, never forlorn or sad.
"Life's too short, Saree," you'd always declare,
A reminder that beauty exists everywhere.
Dear Ma, I see your face when I look in the mirror,
A reflection of strength as I chase dreams clearer.
To Depot Bay cliffs, where whales dance in the spray,
I'll sprinkle your essence as you wished, this I pray.
A bench in your memory, 'neath Depot Bay skies,
Where joy meets the ocean, and my spirit will rise.
For now, here I wait, in Colorado's embrace,
Living, learning, with your smile in my space.
To be continued, dear Ma, as I travel this quest,
Holding your love forever close to my chest.
With lilacs in bloom, and your laughter's sweet tether,
Always and forever, Ma, our spirits together.

I just saw this notice o FB. I am shocked and so very saddened at Laurie´s passing. She was one of the sweetest and kindest people I have ever known. There is a hole in my heart that can´t be repaired. I have no words to express the depth of my grief. I can only reflect on our long and happy friendship and remember all of the wonderful and incredible times we had together. I have known Michael and Laurie for 55 years and they became my family. To Michael, Nicholas, Vincent, Sarah and extended family, let me express my deepest sympathy and condolences. Tereasa and I love you all.
