Obituary

Lauren C. Haugen, age 68, resident of rural Pekin, ND, died unexpectedly Friday July 21, 2006 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Lauren Carlton Haugen was born in McVille, ND on June 26, 1938 to Carl and Vivian (Sutton) Haugen. Raised and educated in Nelson County, he graduated from McVille High School in 1956, and shortly there after began his lifelong career in farming. He worked closely with his father, later taking over and expanding the operation. Lauren enjoyed his many connections with the farmers in the area, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. In his spare time, he enjoyed his many travels around the country, and especially enjoyed his trips he made to Norway. He also attended the annual Threshing Bee's around the area as well as spending time at Pioneer Village in Stump Lake. An avid baseball fan, his favorite team was the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers. In February of 1999, Lauren married Arlene Brennan in Fargo, ND. They resided in Pekin and Grand Forks. Lauren will be remembered and dearly missed by his wife; Arlene of Pekin, ND, children: Lori and her husband Dennis Dahl of Grand Forks, ND, Lynndell and his wife Michelle of Davenport, ND, Jodi Haugen of Lake Worth, FL, Alicia Haugen of Lincoln, NE, Nichole and her husband Peter Shin of Honolulu, HI, Lorna Thronsedt of Grand Forks and Sarah Baier of Yankton, SD. He is also survived by four stepsons, three granddaughters, two grandsons and one brother: Landis Haugen of Tokyo, Japan. He is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services for Lauren will be privately held. The family invites all friends & neighbors out to the family farm on Friday, July 28, 2006 from 4:00 P.M until 8:00 P.M. Lauren was my teen idol...he was a lifetime friend and I so respected his knowledge of his chosen business, farming, and his generosity in life. He was most thoughtful and kind...and I miss him! He will live on in our family for all the fun stories we can share about him. Blessings to his family...Landis...you are always a part of our family! We love you and Arlene! Our homes are always open to both of you. Blessings galore, Lori Mitchell (Lorrene & Larry Burkland too!)

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Lauren, a great friend.
I, Norris, remember all the good times we shared while growing up together as neighbors on the farms. Lauren, you were like a brother to me. You will be deeply missed, but always remembered, until we meet again.

With love and deepest sympathy,
