Laverna Monahan Obituary
Laverna Garrett Monahan, 48 of West Palm Beach, Florida and Chicago passed away Monday, October 1, 2012. Laverna was born in Florence, Ala., on Feb. 1, 1964. She married Daniel Monahan on Feb. 22, 2006 in Boynton Beach, Fla. A graduate of Central High School in Florence, Ala., She obtained a Bachelor's of Arts and Science degree from Freed-Hardeman University in Social and Behavioral Science with a minor in Bible and completed a Master's in social work from Barry University in Miami, FL. She attained license as a clinical social worker in 1994. Laverna was a committed Christian who shared her faith with everyone. Loving, nurturing and spending time with her family was her passion. Taking care of others without a reason came natural, a true talent from God. She loved traveling with her husband, taking her parents on road trips and loved being hostess to anyone who could visit.
Survivors include, Husband Dan; Parents Leon and Mary Garrett; Sons, Kensley Monahan and wife, Kayla, Kevin Monahan and wife Meghan; Daughter, Krissy Renae and husband Steve;
Brother, Thomas Garrrett and wife Pennie; Sister, Brenda Garrett Waller and husband Don; Six Grandchildren;
Three Special Nieces and one nephew she considered her own.
Many family members and friends that were considered sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 6, 1:00-3:00 P.M. at Florence Blvd. Church of Christ, Florence, Ala. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 P.M. Interment will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

To Laverna Family
She was such a beautiful person and we miss her so much. We were so appalled to hear of her death.
She and I (Crissy) were friends. We shared a lot of wonderful moments and had so much in common. Which is why we became quick friends. I cherish the memories and time we shared talking and laughing.
To Levernas family we wish you continued peace and comfort. We thank God for sending this sweet soul to cross our path in this life.

Laverna and I learned to play the flute together and sat beside each other in the Central Band. She was always so warm and supportive of everyone around her. She didn't want anyone to ever feel left out or unimportant. Her smile was contagious! We later attended Freed-Hardeman together. She will be deeply missed and always loved.

Dear Dan, and Laverna's family, We were so shocked and saddened to hear of Laverna's passing. It is not often that one comes along, such as Laverna, as sweet and loving a person you could find. And, she was in love with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We just wish we could have gotten to know Lavarna better, but will always have the fondest memories of her. I met Lavera almost 13 years ago & we grew to be very good friends. She was such a wonderful source of support for everyone she knew. I just saw her last Thursday 9/27 and she was her beautiful warm perky self. I know you all are in shock, as I am. She walked by my side through many many crises and I will miss her so very much. We all will have a special guardian angel watching over us. So sorry for your loss. I will remember her always.

Dan, you and your family have our deepest condolences. Although, Laverna & I we never spent a lot of time together, she was my friend! We could chats for hours at the office! My husband John & I met her parents downtown West Palm Beach. Her mom asked for first dibs on the Louis Vuitton handbag I was carrying. Her death Was so shocking to all of us. Laverna was truly loved and will be truly missed.
