I was one of those children visiting the Curry house wishing I could be one of Lavona´s children! What a wonderful person!

Dear Currie family,
Oh, so many fond memories of Lavona! Was listening today to holiday music of Sarah Brightman and recalling how a group including Lavona and I attended her concert not too too many years ago at The Fox Theater. She was so fun, conversationally and so into the arts, dance and everything! I miss her, and will do so when in Atlanta. Wishing all of you a good holiday; know that it will be bittersweet though hopefully full of great reminiscences of your mother.
Kind regards to all of you,
Lisa Mani MD

Sending Love and Healing Prayers to all of Lavona's Family. Although I never did have the pleasure of meeting Lavona, I learned all about her from my longtime, close friend, Millibeth Currie.

My romance with the Currie family began in Atlanta over 50 years ago. In 1995, I moved to New York City. When Overton and Lavona came to NYC, they stayed at the University Club on 5th Avenue. After Overton passed away, Lavona and I fantasized about her visiting me in to experience my New York, the city that people live in, work in and love. Five years ago, that dream became a reality. I developed a challenging itinerary - 4 days in the city and then a train by the Hudson River to my home in the Catskill mountains for 4 more days. Concerned that it might be too much for her at 86, I highlighted items on the itinerary that she could delete. She deleted nothing. She added two museums! After eight memorable days together, Lavona returned to Atlanta and went straight into meetings with the ballet. I went to bed for three days! I called Lavona my unsinkable Molly Brown. Dear unsinkable Lavona, you have left us with empty arms but hearts filled with a thousand beautiful memories. Thank you.

I am truly sorry to hear of Lavona's passing. The few times that I was in her company, usually at an art event, she was always very kind and treated me like an old friend. My sincere sympathy to the entire Currie family.

Lavona embodied a readiness we should all aspire to know firsthand. Working with her was a tremendous inspiration. She quickly became my favorite student of all time. I learned so much from teaching her, and enjoyed bragging about Lavona to my friends, family and other clients, thus inspiring them. She was such a bright light in my life during a dark time, I will forever be grateful. I am a better person for having known Lavona and her passion for life.

Dearest Curries, how lovely and elegant Lavona was! Add a twinkle to that beautiful face and I will never forget how special it was to be in her presence.
Ever since Hattiesburg, Mama and Daddy adored her and Overton (and thankful she and Mama could share a car for groceries!) ... and waiting for the Currie card each year was one of our family Xmas highlights.
Y´all are all so special and had the dearest mother and father ever. May you rejoice in her love, and remember her with special wines and warmth. I think she, Overton, Mama and Daddy are having a blast playing bridge in heaven.
Blessings on you all!
Love,
Dedie and all the Kelso´s.

Lavona and Overton were the most wonderful foster-parents to me during summer 1968 in Atlanta when I was a young Law student at Cambridge University and visiting the USA for the first time. It was a heady year politically there and the Currie family was amazing to experience it with. My "foster" siblings have always shown great kindness and my love and sympathy are with them and all the family at this time. I shall never forget you all and the fun and laughter we have had over the years, with Lavona so often at the centre of that fun!

So sorry this time has come for all of you. I remember when my mother passed like yesterday. In both our cases, what a privilege to share in such an extraordinary arc of life with such an amazing force abd character as your mom. Beth and I send all our love to Terry, you, Martha, Lucy, Judy and all your loved ones. The memories are the next stirring adventure chock full of tears and whoops of laughter. Enjoy the ride and the conversations with your mom which will inevitably pop up so much more than you expect.
