Lawrence Cassidy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 23, 2017.
Lawrence "Larry" Edward Cassidy Sr. of Rehoboth Beach, DE formerly of Newark, DE and Southwest Philadelphia died suddenly in the loving arms of his wife on Saturday December 23. He was 62 years old. Larry was a kind, big hearted man, who made an impression on everyone he met. He was a prankster, as I'm sure many of you know, and always quick with a joke. He was his son's biggest fan, taking them to every single practice and wrestling tournament. No tournament was too far or small, if his sons wanted to go, he took them. He was at every sporting event whether it was a Holy Angels football game, wrestling match, a Salesianum or St. Mark's wrestling match or football game, he wouldn't miss it. He loved the Holy Angels football program where his sons played. He even donated his time with many others and helped build the Joan Muzzi Athletic Association building where there were countless BBQs after Friday night practices. He was a great salesman and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He loved watching Notre Dame Football with his boys and was a huge fan. He loved all Philadelphia sports and took his sons to many games. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, and was always in search of a new pond, whether he was trespassing or not. Larry was an avid reader and he particularly enjoyed John Grisham novels. He will truly be missed by his wife, and his boys who loved him so much and made them the men they are today. In memory of Big Laar, if everyone could share their favorite story. Survivors: He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Ellen (Reilly) Cassidy who he was married to for 33 years. Father of two sons and best friends Patrick and Larry. He is the son of the late John and Anna Cassidy (O'Neill) and the brother of the late Jack Cassidy and Michael Cassidy (Maureen) of Fells Point, MD. He was a 1973 graduate of West Catholic High School for Boys he attended St. Barnabas Catholic elementary school in Philadelphia Visitation: Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing & Funeral Thursday 9:30am -10:45 am at Holy Angels Church 82 Possum Park Rd. Larry was so very kind to us at the meat market. My 2 year old son thought he world of him as Larry would greet us with a loud hi and smile and get Maddox my son who we call mad 2 cookies before he would take our order. He was beyond kind and we will miss him. God bless those family memebers left behind he talked about his family every time we saw him he loved you all so very much.

Dear Ellen and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Larry being very welcoming when my daughter, Rose and I would visit. I know Rose and Molly stayed at your house a few weekends. When I would show up to pick-up Rose --- he would say to sit-down have a beer and talk for a while. Your whole family was always very friendly and I know they are there to support you. My prayers are with you and your family. Evelyn MacPhee and Rose D'Alexander

We are all deeply saddened to hear of Larry's untimely passing. I personally apologize for not being able to attend his ceremony but we were out of state. Larry was a special person, and I will will always consider him a good friend. His enthusiasm for young Larry and Patrick was incredible. His sense of humor and overall positive demeanor made him a very easy guy to like. I will forever remember fondly our time we spent supporting Holy Angels Athletics. Larry was a big part of many a great time. He will be missed! Coach Spiese

What an incredible man Larry was. I always told him that he was one of my favorite people in the world and I meant it. Larry was such a big part of my life as a child and as an adult as well. So proud to say that I knew him the way that I did. Larry was a legend in my eyes. Some of my favorite memories growing up are with Larry in them. Always the first person to wish me Happy Birthday and always made sure of it. Always there for me, always able to make me smile or laugh even when I didn't want to, Two summers ago Larry was truely a God send and an Angel for my son and I. I will never forget what he did for us that night and I will never forget him. Love to you all and Love to Big Lar in Heaven ♥
