Lawrence J. Doyen, age 96, of Mapleton, died on Thursday, February 18, 2010, at the Mapleton Community Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Kleinke officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-6 at Olson-Tichenor Funeral Home in Mapleton and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at Barnard Valley View Cemetery.
Lawrence was born on September 13, 1913, to Harm and ReKa (Rosenbaum) Doyen in Palmroy, Iowa. He attended country school. On September 18, 1940, Lawrence was united in marriage to Louise B. Olson in Mapleton. Lawrence was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was on their board for many years. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle.
Lawrence is survived by his two sons, Orrin (Yolanda) Doyen and Neil (Patricia) Doyen both of rural Vernon Center; two daughters, Loretta Doyen of Coon Rapids and Leslie (Matt) Bedney of Rapid City, S.D.; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren; and one brother, Raymond (Ora) Doyen of rural Good Thunder; two sisters: Jeanette Pick of Mapleton and Helen Caven of Amboy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; his daughter Deanna; grandson Lee; and two sisters, Ancila and Laura.
