GENTILE LAWRENCE J. "LARRY"
Of Shadyside, on Friday, July 11, 2014, age 90. A man of dignity, integrity, character, faith, and respect. Family first, church and his Catholic faith if not equal, right behind. An usher at Sacred Heart Church for over 60 years, serving at two masses every weekend. A true World War II hero. A proud member of the 101st Airborne Division. In October 1944, his twin brother, Domenic was killed in action in a tulip field in Holland across the road from him - A day he described as the worst day of his life. A member of the "Band of Brothers", he fought in the Battle of the Bulge a few months later. Larry always had an interesting or amusing story to share about the war. Preceded in death not only by his twin brother, but also by his loving spouse of 64 years, Mary Frances Racculia Gentile; four other siblings; and a great- granddaughter. Survived by son, Dominic (Jill) and their children, Brian (Petina) and Rebecca (Sam) DeArmint; daughter, Kathy Anne (Chris) Reiner and their son, Christopher; also five great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends received at McCABE BROS., INC. FUNERAL HOME, 6214 Walnut Street, Shadyside on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., where Funeral will commence on Tuesday at 9 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church, 310 Shady Avenue, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Mt. Troy. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army in Larry's name.
